I dug around the forum and lots of different threads on the New Port wiper system, but nothing that directly answers the specific question I'm trying to sort out. I'm pretty interested in their system, but before dumping >$500 into it, would like to be fairly sure it's going to work with my setup that includes the ToddZ intermittent wiper mod. Here's what I think I know:

  • I called New Port and talked to Bill (sounded informed), and he said it would not work with factory switch since factory setup has a wire for wiper parking going back to the switch. He did not explain why it would not work.
  • He also said their motor has a built in self-parking circuit
  • He also said they have never changed the electric motor, so assuming whatever folks have installed on the forum have had the same self-parking circuit
  • DuffyMahoney posted here that he was able to use factory switch
  • Factory schematic below shows the wiring for the factory switch and the park wire returning to switch
  • Also attaching a PDF of an article I dug up from internet archives talking about the intermittent functionality needing the parking circuit wire going back to the switch to reset the timing circuit, which totally makes sense
I think given the self parking, it might be fairly easy to use the factory switch without intermittent wipers, but really don't want to dump >$500 bucks and not end up with everything I'm hoping to get.

Anybody able to share details who have installed it and successfully used factory switch, and bonus points if they used ToddZ's intermittent setup.

@duffymahoney could you share more details what you did and if it included the intermittent setup?

Anybody have the instructions for the New Port setup and can upload the instructions that came with the install? And could possibly identify the manufacturer and PN of the motor on the New Port gear so I can do some research?

Thanks fellas,

I honestly don't remember, it's been too many years. When off, the wipers go to park. I might have used another switch? Gosh I cannot remember.

I’ve used a few different aftermarket custom wiper setups over the years. I’m sure you could figure out how to make the factory switch work, but they come with just a basic switch that has high low and washer. If you opt for the intermittent setup you get a different switch that has the intermittent function built into it. The non intermittent switch can easily be installed where a factory switch goes and use the stock knob. The intermittent switch has a decent sized box for the switch. On a bronco you can probably get away mounting it in the dash. I’ve usually had to mount them on the bottom flange of the dash since most muscle cars don’t have that much room around the switch.

The stock switch will work fine with a single motor (Bronco or later year delay switch). Just use the 12V constant for the park, 12V low for low speed, and 12V high for high speed. Maybe need a ground if the frame isn't real good for grounding.

@Jdgephar , I'm assuming you have installed the New Port system and got it working with the Ford intermittent system? To make sure I follow, when you mention 12V constant for the park, 12V low for low speed, and 12V high for high speed, are you referring to the New Port wiring or the Ford wiring? From the Ford schematic, I think the functions of the various wires are:

White: 12v when the Ford switch in in the low position
Blue: 12v when the the Ford switch is in the high position
Black: is "feedback" from wiper motor that is cammed off the shaft position and is grounded when parked
Red: is "feedback" from wiper motor that is cammed off the shaft position and is 12v when unparked (wipers moving)

The PDF from my original post says "the Ford delay box needs this signal when in intermittent mode to know when the wiper has left the park position, so it can reset for the next cycle". When I read that, I was assuming that that the delay box is looking for the park line to go 12v or ground to start the next timing cycle.

Are you saying to run constant 12v to the park wire (blue I think) on the NewPort system, 12v low to the low speed wire (yellow I think) on the New Port system, and 12v high to the high speed wire (white I think) on the New Port system?

I'm attaching a picture of a wiring diagram I download from New Port site to maybe help with the wiring.

I'm sure I'm way overthinking this, but the delay box and it functionality is throwing me for a loop.

In the stock wiper wiring from the stock switch, one wire is 12V all the time (Red). It's not "feedback" of anything. That wire will connect to the new motor as the "park" wire. There are two other wires you need. One will have 12V in the "low speed" switch position. That's your low speed wire for the new motor. The last wire will have 12V when the switch is on "high speed". Connect this to the new motor for the high speed. That should be all you need.

Refer to the wiring diagram from your first post and from Newport:
blue = park - connect to the red wire from the bronco switch
yellow = low speed - connect to the W-O wire from the bronco switch
white = high speed - connect to the BL wire from the bronco switch

You won't use the BK-W wire from the bronco switch anymore.

The Ford delay box and switch doesn't need any "feedback" from the motor to work. It closes a relay for a little bit to move the motor at low speed. In your setup, the 12V constant will then park the wipers.

I could be wrong on the feedback wire needed, there's conflicting wiring diagrams on google.

I've done a bit of digging over the last few days and found a wiring schematic for the Ford intermittent wiper system. I can make sense of the non-intermittent system shown on the left with the cam system that parks the motor by connecting the low speed side to ground. The intermittent wiring schematic on the right side is super obtuse to me.

I'm also attaching what I think is the wiring schematic for NewPort switch which look like it connects Bat to Low (when in Low position), Bat to High, and Bat to Park (when off position). This implies to me that the NewPort wiper motor has functionality to park the motor within the motor itself.

I'm far from an expert on this topic, but not sure if the connections in #8 post will work since full time 12v to blue on Newport will be telling it to park all the time. Dunno how fulltime 12v going to blue for park, and then adding 12v to yellow for low would work for the NewPort motor.

If anybody who has the New Port system can ID a manufacturer and PN on their motor, maybe we could determine more info.

The Newport motor is just like the motors used for the dual wiper motor conversions. They have an internal switch that connects 12V from the park wire to the low speed of the motor so that when you change the knob to "OFF", the motor still gets power to park. I called it 12v constant, but it's possible that it only has 12V from the switch when the switch is in the "off" position.

I drew a diagram here: https://classicbroncos.com/forums/t...onco-to-wh-dual-electric-wiper-motors.309707/
You won't need the diodes, since there is only 1 motor. I never did get feedback if the delay function works correctly though.

@Jdgephar , thanks for info and excellent point about the motor being the same as a dual wiper conversion and your link to your previous post! Gotta think that somebody out in ClassicBroncoLandia has the intermittent switch mod with either dual wipers or the NewPort system (@duffymahoney, did you have intermittent mod?).

I'm gonna get some coffee and look at that intermittent wiring diagram some more. Maybe caffeine will add clarity.... :)

I don't believe I did any sort of intermittent mod. I have 3 speeds and off on my switch.

I got an intermittent wiper delay setup from @toddz69 and did some some bench testing to try to figure out how it works. Pretty interesting on the intermittent circuit, it's looking for +12 volts to cycle the circuit which it gets from the microswitch in the OEM Ford wiper motor. Based on the info from New Port, I'm not if it has a similar functionality. I'm getting less optimistic the factory OEM intermittent mod will work with the Newport setup but there may be some ways of triggering downstream that relies on timing and cycling of relays.

Finally circling back to this thread, life got in the way of Bronco fun.

Helpful info in case anybody goes down this too deep of a rabbit hole, hoping I can save somebody else some wasted brain cells. Newport uses coast-to-park motors, and after messing with the intermittent box for quite a while, changing resistors/capacitors, etc, I wasn't able to get a long enough pulse in intermittent mode to get the motor unparked (it took two pulses which was super annoying). Ford OEM is dynamic park.

Long story short, I ordered a dynamic park motor with exact same form factor (Autotex 105715) and swapped it in. Intermittent box is working perfectly with the Newport hardware now.

One minor thing to be aware of is the stock Ford wiper switch powers both the low speed and high speed poles on the motor (when in high speed setting) so you need to use a DPDT relay to open the slow speed circuit when on high (I also opened the park circuit power too with the other pole). Was super simple mod and I just cut up a wiper box harness so I could plug it inline. Thanks to folks on the forum who answered PMs as I battled this, and especially @toddz69 for sourcing intermittent box parts to mess with.

By the way, I'm selling the OEM wiper setup in the For Sale section of forum if anybody is looking for a complete setup with cover, sun visors, etc.

Great to hear of the followup on this! Looks like you might have a marketable product there (hint, hint). Thanks for taking the time to do the research and testing.

I don't remember doing anything fancy, seems to work fine. My memory sucks!

So you built your own?
