Fuel Injection Questions

I'm going to move to fuel injection on my original 302 (73). I'm tired of fighting with fuel delivery issues and I'm better with computers than carbs. What's the best FI setup? What all will I need to change out (lines obviously, tank?). Just looking for as much advice as possible.

I wish it was as simple as "what's the best efi setup?"

Many many choices and each will have its naysayers. High level responses below.

I think the 3 most popular are:
Ford explorer efi
Ford mustang efi
Holley Sniper efi

There are other options but the three listed makeup the majority on this board.

Sniper comes as a full kit or you can piece the fuel system together yourself. It's throttle body efi and comes in 2 or 4 barrel. Bolts on, some electrical hookups and fuel system high pressure.

The mustang efi is obd1 and considered old school. You need a wiring harness, ecm and fuel system hight pressure. Ecm will need tweaking

Explorer is obdII which is much better for troubleshooting. You need wiring harness, ecm and fuel system high pressure. Ecm will need tweaking.

Fuel tank is up to you. I run stock tank with external pump.

I like my factory 2000 explorer FI with Garry’s harness. Returnless pump (supply line only). I use forescan lite and can see live data on motor and trans. Trans is 4r70w that came with the donor vehicle. Tons of support on this forum. Here is what you have to consider: budget, high hp (more tuning) vs less hp (no tuning). Application aka type use. My vehicle is built to drive and enjoy (stock explorer 270 hp and 300 torque, numbers off of the top of my head). You can go bigger with factory but it will take tuning. Tell us about you rig and intended use. It all Snowballs. Best advice I can give you is read up on this forum, make a plan and stick to it. The guys on this forum will help you.

Any idea what tweaking is generally done on a Mustang ECM in this application?

For my mustang efi I had it chipped for the bigger displacement of my 351 and for the parts I was using i.e. gt40 this and that, bigger t-body, cam etc.

For explorer I think "pats" needs to be turned off as well as a few other things. EFI_Guy can tell you exactly what needs to be done but I think it's all about security. Of course the explorer ecm is already setup for the gt40 parts as they were stock on the explorer.

Edelbrock proflo 4 is a complete system and has been very reliable for me and several others on this forum.
I rejected the idea of "factory" type fuel injection when the EPA passed regulations that prevented guys like @EFI Guy from tuning the ECM to specification with things like EGR delete.

I went with Aces Kill Shot. I have no complaints with the system other than my own lack of love for tuning.

If there was a "best" then there wouldn't be any confusion of what to get. But there isn't. Too many variables. And personal tastes. About the only one that is a hard pass is the F150. Not because of the electronics, EEC-IV is good, just the intake is too tall to fit under the hood. Ten there are the variables of availability, price, tuning, parts availability, looks, and probably more I can't think of.

I'm going to do EFI on my 347 explorer motor I saved everything from my donor a 2001 explorer, I was going with a guy here in Michigan that does his owe EFI but he's all done so back to explorer, my question is where do I start been looking on form and reading, motor is built except for intake, I just use my bronco for driving and some true tracks and maybe silver lake running 33" 456 gears and have 3 speed manual now but going to either AX 15 or AOD. Thanks ( sorry but who is EFI GUY)

EFI guy is a gentleman, brilliant efi chip builder, efi harness builder/restorer, and the most dependable/honest one around this board at least.
He is brilliant at what he does and as honest/humble as one gets.
He did two chips/ecms for me and saved my dear friends thousands of dollars in loss on their late father's Dodge truck (and it was a very difficult problem he solved).
Just a great human being all around.

Its kind of a funny story. My Bronco came about because I saw an add for this dual quad EFI system. I always wanted a dual quad engine but I was a bit intimidated by the idea of tuning two carbs. when I saw this kit I decided I wanted it, but of course I needed something to put it in. I bought the bronco specifically to put this induction system in. I have enjoyed it ever since. I used Toms fuel injection ready fuel tank and had the system tuned by Mad scientist tuning through facebook and it has been great for me. and I still think it looks really cool. yes in my mind im still eleven years old lol.

That looks pretty cool! What sort of system is it, Holley / MS?
