Okay, we have an a g r strg box mounted with a typical hydroboost line routing, and we 're not getting any assist whatsoever and wondering if the line connections to the box are different, because it 's an a g r box instead of a stock bronco or 4x4x2 box

In theory, the high-pressure line should still be the one most forward, towards the gears. Low pressure return should be the rear word, closest to the input shaft.
But other than that, is it an actual 78/79 type box?

Does AGR even exist any more? I thought that I'd see if I could find anything on their page and I can't even find a page for them.

They do not...which is a GOOD thing. I collected experiences from people I know that had to deal with this crook... it was long & it was filled with very reputable people which exponentially increases the fact this guy was morally bankrupt.

My buddy who is here this week with us won a box of his yrs ago.

He just switched over to a new setup from you guys & with 40 miles on the pump we believe is toast. Upon startup this am to dblecheck line routing-which is OK for this box now... we heard a loud "knock" sound at a repetition of every 3sec with the Bronco idling. LOUD.

You could easily feel it on the pump.

Talked with Kelvin who I know at PSC & played the video of it. He said in the 30yrs I've worked in this business I've never heard THAT! :)

We pulled it apart, sent him pics, determined no wear from the pressure relief valve & bought the guts from a similar pump & p ut it in the original reservoir.

Seems to be working fine off the grd after we bled it for hrs.

Will set it on the grd tomorrow am & test drive it a bit aired down here locked only "The Pickle" tomorrow.

This may not mean anything but the return line from the hydroboost if you are using a "T" fitting tied into the return line from the box to the pump has to be in the middle fitting allowing the box to have a straight thru path. You wouldn't think it matters but the littlest things can sometimes cause problems. It's always best to have a dual return or add a second return at the pump.

Box is drilled for ram plumbing?
Can you plug the ports for ram, and try power steering without ram assist?

I think that I'd check for flow thru the H-B in place before pulling it apart.

Is Yeller still there with you?

Steve traveled down to Blanding... we're heading there Sunday. We're all checking out Indian ruins!

We are coupling the two HB lines together to eliminate the HB.

No brakes but maybe good strg!!

Yep enjoying Blanding. Driving Comb Ridge Wash from north to south to the San Juan River tomorrow
On the west side of the wash is where tammy and I have found all the ruins we've hiked into.

Well, the AGR seems to be the culprit... after the brand new PSC pump died (appr. 40 miles).

If you turn the wheel when a load is on the front end there are very definite easy and hard to rotate parts in the strg wheel. I can't think of a single reason for a "tightness" or difficulty in rotating the strg wheel at only certain "spots" in the rotation of the strg wheel when there aren't any mechanical issues in other parts of the system.

So we're just cruising around doing easy stuff and having a great time. He will try to see if he can fix it.

The AGR box kinda looks like a stock Bronco box upper with DOM welded on below to give the sector shaft (EB box weak spot) some beef.

That AGR guy (Josh B.) seems to have disappeared? A number of us had problems with his stuff, as you know. That welded-on sector shaft section seemed to be a unique offering of his - I think it took the guts of maybe an 800 series Saginaw box and added the longer sector shaft to work in EBs.

Thanks Todd.
Having some avenues for parts ID is helpful as my buddy is going to wait till he gets home (MT) to pull it apart & see if he can find the cause(s) of very little flow going thru it & the tight/easy/tight strg ( only under load) strg wheel turn issue.

Pondering that I wondered about any debris getting into the recirculating ball screw, but concluded that would likely lock up the screw. Maybe a shock load bending the screw just slightly causing a tight spot on the opposing side of the thread? Sketchy with the number of balls in there. Curious if you hear the power steering pump load up a bit at those tight spots. Enough torque that the valve is being activated. If not maybe a balky valve but intermittent behavior would seem unusual. It is a puzzling diagnosis. Hateful to have it happen when you travel that far!

Just noticed Todd's comment. I looked a bit the other day and noticed AGR listed with a dealer in Hawaii and even Summit. Maybe old posts or they still have stock?

Summit and Vivid Racing show unavailable. Big Island Off Road has some Jeep boxes that go to cart, so likely leftover.

...ss...

No whine from the pump when load goes from no load at all when idling to can't turn the strg wheel ... at 4,000 rpm and not moving.

Interesting, like it's just bypassing fluid which doesn't explain the random tightness. Sincerely hope he trailered and not have to fight it all the way home.
