Custom exhaust or exhaust kit?

I have GT40P heads with the bronco hut short tube headers. Are there any options for an off the shelf kit or do i have to go custom? My local exhaust shop says they need to see my bronco to give me a quote on a custom exhaust. This means I have to trailer it to and from the shop for an estimate. This is not the end of the world but just a pain. Didn't know if anyone has a kit that would work

I bought a kit from one of the big vendors. Unfortunately the drivers side Manifold down tube travels right in the path of the front driveshaft so I have to get that pipe reworked. The vendor is making it right, but it’s an inconvenienc.

Fit was very good otherwise and price was excellent.

With all that said, I’d just have the exhaust shop bend you a custom set of tubes and buy the muffler of your choice. It’s more money, but the fit will be perfect and you won’t have to lay on your back trying to piece it together.

I'm happy with my Duff set. Custom would've been slightly better but putting it together, then figuring out which pieces to shorten and then reassembly made a night and day difference. A bit more work for you at home and less worry about taking it somewhere and not getting what you want. Also easy to remove and easy if I ever want to have a shop change a piece. The clamps that came with the Stainless setup are fantastic.

I can weld but I don’t have a tubing bender.
Very cost effective kits on amazon that have straight pipe and a bunch of bends. That and a mig make for a cost effective fun project.
I did a dual set up on one truck, and once the last few pieces show up on Friday and I will be doing header install and exhaust on my inline 6 truck. Classic Inlines header, cheap Thrush muffler, and 2" exhaust kit that I'll fit myself. Should work well for my needs.
I tried a kit from a vendor years ago and was unhappy. I'm sure they've gotten better, but never again for me.
If I wasn't doing one myself, I'd pay a shop.

As 67Sport offered, buy the pipe kit. You don’t need to bend anything. You can make any angle by where you cut and weld. Not hard at all. I made a 2:1 and bought a y pipe. Made everything else. Grind down welds and paint exhaust silver and it looks very nice.

One kit will do a full 2:1. You will need 2 kits for dual. Plenty of extra if you make a couple mistakes.

Looks good. Where did you find the adapters that bolt to your headers?

This is awesome info. One question. Any reason to not use a muffler with 2-1 built in instead of the y-pipe?

None that I can think of...seems it would basically do the same thing. You would likely need to run the double pipes further because you don't want your muffler up close to the engine.

Perfectly acceptable. The Y-pipe can work better in some vehicles for packaging reasons. I could also say the same thing for a 2 in muffler.
Of the 3 exhaust systems I have built over the years, one was a Y-pipe and the other two were 2-in muffler.

I purchased Duff’s 2.5” SS dual exhaust system for my swap. I knew I’d have to have custom connections to the headers. Tomorrow I’m taking it to the shop to complete the job…via trailer. I’ll let you know what the added cost was. I too ordered the SS band clamps. Not sure if we will use them or weld the connections.

I ended up going g w a custom exhaust. My local shop charged $1375 for dual exhaust from my headers back. All stainless pipe and mufflers. They did a great job

And while expensive, that sounds like a fairly reasonable price for duals in stainless all custom.
Given today’s pricing that is!

Local muffler shops want an arm and leg for carp work. 10+ years ago I started buying mandrel bends from places like SPD and Columbia River and haven't looked back. Was in a jam one time and had the supposed best in the area build me a system. I asked for one specific feature, and didn't get it. They went out of their way to make what I wanted to do not possible. That's the last job that they will ever get from me. The father was a good dude, the son, not so much.

This is the system for the Valiant getting painted:

The system that I built for "Snowball" (FSB) using amazon sourced SS tube:

Won't be doing that again, that stuff is carp to weld.
