Couple of quick thoughts, if the issue is stagnated airflow, etc due to flow paths, having a bigger fan might not actually do much good.

Does the fan push air through or pull air through? If pushing air, maybe flip it over so the fan is on floorboard side? Are the sides of your standoff brackets closed or open?

I bet it won't fit this way, but what if you flipped it 90 degrees such that it's flowing front to back? If driveline clearance is an issue, you could tilt it. Might promote better airflow.

No way to know is the bigger fan is going to help or not until I put it on and test but since that's the main source of cooling, I'd be shocked if a 35% increase in flow through the coils doesn't make a notable change. My only worry is that the fan rating of 839 cfm is bs, but this Spal 625 cfm fan that's on there now feels weak as hell and not surprised it doesn't cool well. I actually started looking for a fan as soon as I bought this cooler cause I was confident I might need it.

I also did try to find a spot that I could mount it hanging sideways cause I think that would be ideal but there is no good spot. If I didn't have retractable steps, this would all be SO easy.

I know we have talked about turbulence before. Have you tried hanging ribbons/strings underneath and mounting a camera or 2 then going for a drive covering different speeds?

My issue is only when driving uphill at 55+. Doesn't get hot otherwise.

If the air is partially stagnated or throttled by the geometry of the install then it's going to flow what it's going to flow and once you're at that limit the size of the fan will not make much difference.

The whole area under the EB is bound to be chaotic flow, not sure that the wool tuft test would reveal anything, but it wouldn't hurt to try it.

If cooler were mounted at an angle that mimics the rear drive-shaft angle, with the fan at the rear (assuming a puller fan), then you might see a large increase in air flow. Sort of an inverted 70's Corvette radiator mounting.

Cooler is mounted opposite of driveshaft angle so the front can catch air. That’s all I can do. 4” clearance at the front and 2” clearance at the back.

And if air turbulence is an issue, my second proposed step of adding ram air will solve it best if the fan doesn’t do enough.

I did my baseline test with the new line routing today. It says my new fan is out for delivery so hoping I get time to mount it today and hope it will use the same mounting holes so I don’t need to modify anything. Also need to decide whether or not to use a relay for this one but can’t find any specs that say how many amps the new fan actually uses. I think the current one is 7 and I’m not using a relay. 200 amp alternator but at least considering since I’m not sure about the new one.

Annoyingly, my new catch can breather system is leaking a little so I might have to pull that as well and reseal the threads at the bottom fitting.

Yeah, they are crappy fittings that weren’t very tight together and though it being a drain, that what I did was good but clearly not.

Will take it off once it cools and use my thread seal paste with thread lock. Nothing gets through that. I’ve used it on my tv pressure sensor setup and everything else important and wish I’d used that on this but will now.

Annoying taking this catch can off and wanted to at some point to make sure it’s draining but hard to tell if it’s draining when it’s leaking…

Anyway, took it off and also slotted the drain fitting since it sticks up inside more than I’d like it to:

Then cleaned it all up and put the right thread sealant and will wait until dry and take my time and test.

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Now just waiting for the new fan.

@Dylan_Shaffer I like how the fittings are both on one side. Not sure if it cools as well but drives me crazy how these coolers are usually made with the lines so far apart. Tough to be efficient with your use of space that way.

New fan came. I'm really not so sure this is better (had each of them suction against a piece of cardboard) and then also tested the amp draw...and I see it on the documentation now. It's only 3.5-4 amp draw while running and I tested the Spal fan that they say is 7 but that's just in the 4 amp range.

Maybe this is over rated and the Spal is under rated I guess I'll wire it up and test in the real world maybe tomorrow if I have time. The only other fan I found was Davies Craig brushless that says it's 788 cfm and 3.5 times more expensive.

@ba123 it took me so much searching to find a cooler that fit between the rails, wasn’t much taller than the frame rails, had fittings on the same side, and fittings pointing back instead of out the side. The only other option I found was a Porsche cooler but then you have to pay Porsche money. Early Broncos are so space constrained there’s no real good way to do a cooler.

I like the way you think!

I have a Porsche as well and yeah, everything is ridiculous for it and they all want to charge you a ton for shipping as well.

Where did you get that cooler from?

Please also lmk when you get it mounted and show pics.

I got it here, can’t speak to quality (it is damn cheap). I’ll have it mounted in the next couple weeks and will update with pictures.

I am weary when a very important part is at "Portuguese pricing". There is a time to be Portuguese, and this is not one of them IMHO. I would get a setrab, take the kick in the groin and know you have one of the finest made available.

It's kind of surprising what Summit carries in OEM fit oil coolers. I've purchased a couple for use as PS coolers and for return fuel coolers.
Yeah, Summit has a ton of stuff and I love buying from them. Good customer service the very few times I've had any issue with something.

This Alloyworks place Dylan mentions has a 9" fan that claims 1730 cfm. I'm sure it doesn't put that out but might be worth a try at $25...but highly doubtful! There is one on Summit, a Perma-Cool, that claims 2390 cfm and lots of reviews say it's nowhere near that and one guy tested and got 650.

I do not have very high hopes for my road test of my new fan but it's always possible. Even 5 degrees better would be an accomplishment but any less than that and I'll send it back and keep looking.

I figure failure mode would be developing a small leak that would eventually develop into a bigger leak, which I’m fine with for the price point. Not a whole lot that goes into making a cooler, for things like fans and pumps definitely worth spending the extra bucks.

A fan is easy to change and I’ll take anything that pulls enough air to cool my cooler but I agree that you’d want a quality oil cooler. I wouldn’t want to go through the trouble of mounting it only to have to find another.

But the price alone doesn’t mean it isn’t good enough. Those type of coolers generally aren’t very expensive.

I went ahead and ordered this Alloyworks fan. I mean it says it draws 12.7 amps and that's the highest I've been able to find for a 9" fan so at least worth testing compared to the others. Not sure how it's so cheap but if I get it and find it anywhere near that I'll order 1-2 more for backups.

There just aren't very many high power 9" fans around. I also emailed DeltaPAG to ask if they'd make me a 9" fan but I'm sure they wouldn't and if they do it would be pricey.
