    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Best of luck! The new sender I got from NAPA read too high. I purchased a Motorcraft branded one from RockAuto and it seems fine. Well, fine for now…

LMC Bronco Catalog - Lawndart’s truck!

Hey - thanks!! News to me. I was trying to remember the location of that photo and nothing clicked. I was kayaking with the wife years back (Bronco with kayak on a trailer) and was approached by someone from LMC. Later, they came out, took pics of the Bronco and made the LMC cover in 2017...

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Certainly, I over did it :) Thanks for your help. Next time the extension is out, I will likely go that way - thanks. I wanted to go this route, however the one I looked at was 1/8 NPT and the hole in my block is 1/4 NPT. Epilogue Back on the road with 100 miles done. The sender was...

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Clean-up and reassembly Cleaned the hole with swabs lightly covered in grease. Chased the treads with a 1/4-18 tap with light grease and swabbed again until clean. Removed dizzy and spun the pump with a drill. Then reassembled everything. I am thinking that I should just drain the oil...

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Extraction - round two With not much material left, I decided to make one last Hail Mary attempt at extraction. Went with the largest bit I had - 3/8 drill extractor. I tapped it into the hole and started applying pressure. I think I saw the material turn with the extractor, hopefully not...

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

I was thinking about this as well. My plan was to eventually carefully vacuum it out with some vacuum hose and prime the engine. I see Melling has these. Do stock 1973 302s have 1/4″ hex shaft or 5/16″ hex shaft?

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Thanks guys - a little bummed at the moment. So do you think I should get a couple larger square extractors or has extraction time passed? Or is it drill/ream/pick time? Won't get at it today as I have to work.

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Thanks everyone! Extraction - round one It did not go well. The only extractors I could find locally where spiral. I started small and they would get a good bite, but eventually break loose. I stepped up in size a few times. Once it seemed it was coming out, but I think the extractors where...

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Thanks everyone! I had to work today, so no progress. There is an approx 3/16" hole in the extension and the piece still in the block. I am hoping to use that without drilling. I'll try in the tomorrow AM and report.

    Broken Oil Sender Extension

Well, seems to be "broken off flush" month for me. Just the other day... https://classicbroncos.com/forums/threads/broken-rear-axle-shaft.324641/#post-3555311 Today, I was changing my oil + filter when post duty, I noticed a drip/leak. After some investigation, it was coming from the oil...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

Reassembled today. Had a friend over to bounce ideas off of and help. The brakes were the main struggle. Done. Axles in - kinda set the brakes, then off for a test drive. All well, minus the brakes. Came back and focused on the brakes. Another test run - all well. Back on the road...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

Round one - Earlier this week, I was able to drill about 3/4" deep at the center of the shaft with a 1/4" bit. As I started to step up on my way to just under 3/8" (size of my slide hammer shaft), I ran into some dull bits. Then I tried welding a couple nut to the shaft. My welder was too...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

I just took another look - I think it is a combo of the angle, the backing plate getting a little beat up and loose after I took off the bearing/axle retaining nuts. Thank you for the heads up and I will certainly inspect once I get the axle shaft out. Thoughts on getting the broken one out...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

The non-broken shaft came out easily. The bearing is toast. I have not noticed any bearing noise. I confirmed 28 splines. The drum measures about 10 3/8 inches ID and about 2 1/2 inches depth wise on the brake surface. I measured the outside diameter of the bearing. I was not able to...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

Thanks DirtDonk! Yes, I believe it is a small wheel bearing and my drums are 10" (measures about 10.5" ID of the drum). I have the 3.50 ratio limited slip rear. I will follow your advise and change both bearings, so likely both axles (looks like this one was cracked for quite some time)...

    Broken Rear Axle Shaft

Well, that was fun. I was coming home last night around 9PM and slowly turning a corner after stopping at a rural crossroad when there was a bang and my Bronco was getting squirrely. We were squatted in the rear as I headed for the side of the road. I glanced in the rearview and saw my rear...
