I have one that is an October (761965) build that has what looks like Stroppe dual shock upgrades. the Rear has both front and rear facing mounts so I am not sure which were factory yet. I will be pulling the body and cleaning the frame soon and it should be obvious once I get it cleaned up.

On your new truck, the forward-facing shocks are the stockers. I noticed that in the pics you posted a few days ago.

It's a 6. Correlate first V-8's to rearward?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think the rearward shocks started with the V8 intro in March, on V8 trucks only. But more data is needed. Okie4570 just posted the question on FB, asking for data from folks so hopefully we can get a better handle on it with more data points.

Hopefully some 3/66'-5/66' 6cyl owners give some feedback.

Maybe the new rearward facing location was to help reduce axle wrap with the higher powered, torquier V8 engines. Just like GM went to opposing angled shocks to theoretically reduce wrap, perhaps it was felt the dynamics were such that rearward shocks might reduce it somewhat.

I'm guessing it was because that was the 'proper' position for them, i.e. made the shocks' damping progressive, rather than digressive, but we'll probably never know for sure.

Official thread jack in progress...

Hey Paul. Nothing theoretical about it. Staggered shocks work. Ford also had them on the 69-70 Boss and Cobra Jet Mustangs with manual transmission.

Funny, I am sure Tzorn11 is happy to learn since he is new so this one is not a bad jack!

My last post did exactly what is was designed to do....continue to extract information from people way smarter than I am on a particular topic. I am excited to have a new set of eyes on my rig tomorrow to better understand my path forward with it’s restoration. Keep firing info boys this is fun. Glory be to God!

I do have a question for the group...does an original gas tank add to value vs a new reproduction. They want 150 to restore the tank another 50 for the sending unit restoration. It’s not all about money it’s also time. I want to drive it before it’s 110 in the shade in Phoenix.

Not sure the value differences but all the repro tanks have the vent port on the opposite side of your 66 fill hose vent. Not the end of the world but be prepared to add some extra vent hose and reroute.

My good friend Juan O Savin says history is important he thinks the idea for the Bronco was born November 22 1963. Any ideas? so much information is difficult to substantiate. I have spent 17 days researching. I love America it’s cool inventions and it’s history.

Close on the 11/63' date but it was officially mentioned earlier than that, and had to be in talks before that even. All that and more is in Todd's book. I can guarantee you that no person(s) have researched the 66-77 bronco more than Todd and some of the others here.

The first sketches of the Bronco date from late July 1963, with more generated in August. $300K for the Bronco program was approved in October 1963. I do have some styling photos from 11/21/63 - the closest to 11/22 that I have in terms of documentation. I would say 11/22 is close but work actually started several months before that.
