Finally got around to ordering @delconick ‘s wiring harness. Picked it up from Wild Horses since they are closer to save on shipping.

Also snagged a stock cluster!

Very cool! How far away are you from installing the harness?

Anxious to hear your feedback and thoughts on the delconick wiring harness. I'm still on the fence between that and the painless. I like how the painless uses the ford color scheme.

Should be easy to sell!
Heck, if it doesn’t sell right away, and you’re looking for something fun to do with Broncos, while keeping yourself out of the garage temporarily, come on down to our swap meet next month.
After all, we are “just down the hill“ from you! :)

See how I worked at shameless plug-in, without actually being completely shameless?😉😁

Stripped it down more today. I feel like I got the intake manifold gasket surface cleaned up good enough. Not really sure though. Any tips here?

Also when I pulled the timing cover this bit fell into the oil pan. I think it’s a guide sleeve? Thoughts?

My dad's old trick was to lightly take a mill smooth file laying flat across the surface. Any imperfections would be knocked off or show easily. Not usually much required on the intake side.

As for when you go to set the intake, it's difficult to place the manifold without a little movement that fouls the gasket or silicone on the china wall. Best trick is 4 studs (I use long allen set screws) installed prior to the manifold. Then the manifold sets straight down without movement. Once you get a few of the regular bolts started you can remove & replace the studs.

My go to on gaskets is a 3m buffer pad used lightly to remove all those dots that I can see in the close up picture especially around the right bank center port.
Alternatively if you get some standard razor blades (Harbor freight sells them by the box) Hold the blade perfectly at a right angle to the sealing surface and scrape side to side. It should scrape the remainder of that stuff off fairly quickly and not damage the surface.

Stock Bronco manifolds.. yes it will limit flow but I like that they are quieter and keep the heat down as well.

I have the exact same engine out of a 96 van. I had the heads re-done, cleaned it up, re-sealed and painted and put a carb on it for now. Used a pertronix dizzy. Started first try and runs like a champ. Can't wait to get it on the road! I do have one problem, and that is excessive crank case pressure pushing oil out of the dipstick tube...still trying to figure that out.

Stock manifolds. Did you know that Dorman sells a reproduction stock exhaust manifold for the Hi-Po 289?
I believe a couple of members here are using them in their Broncos. The assumption is that they are a little better flow than the stock Bronco manifolds.
Maybe look them up for a picture.
In case a little more flow is important.
