Believe what you will. A painter, or paint store, these days will have only their paint system computer usually. Just like at Napa, if you give them a Ford part number they wont know what to do.

Hey Lundski!!! thank you for checking back. the paint shop *STILL* has my top, but its in white and looks great. Was told the blue on the lid would be done this week, but he hasn't called yet and here we are on Friday. UGH. But the truck itself is home and looks great for what I asked for.

All said and done, I had ALL the white done inside and out, the matte black hood, the red of the engine bay. I did not have the poppy red/ calypso corral done on the outside of the truck below the chrome. It was "good enough" to leave it as is. Just couldn't justify the cost of ripping it all out. Also, the interior poppy/calypso was original and not rusted, so I left it alone. Its mostly covered up with flooring anyway.

So... call it a partial repaint for economics and preservation.

Chassis is still going slow. Wife was giving me grief about some house things to get done, but I'm getting ready to hit the Stroppe chassis pretty hard.

btw, I did this huge research and asked all the best minds of the industry on the Stroppe Poppy Red paint code. Neither me or the painter could EVER find a code for "Poppy Red". Not even close. But I understand "Calypso Corral" is the correct color and that was easy to find. I just hear everyone call it Poppy Red, but I don't think that color actually exists.

As always Andrew, thank you. And you are right. When I was sitting with the paint guy, even with all my print outs of info and paint codes, his knowledge was limited by what the computer could provide as a cross to his paint. The Wimbledon White, Astra blue all came right up by name.. Calypso did as well, but he couldn't find Poppy in his computer. We even called around to confirm. My research from the forum, from your (Andrew's) posts, Drew Peroni's and others showed the Calypso commonality so when it came up, I felt it was safe. Plus it was a visual match on the test spray. So it all worked out anyway.

Before it went to paint, I had checked the paint chips for 71 ford truck, and couldn't find poppy red. (attached) but found calypso. that threw me off too. I know one of these is for passenger cars but I considered it anyway. Was that because of the "special paint" package that ford prepared for Stroppe? is that why it doesn't show up on the paint chips for 71?

Whoops here is the official paint chip for diztler ppg for 71 truck. still calypso, but the term poppy wasn't used. again, that's why it threw me off at first, but...same color. I think I confused MYSELF at the time because I was looking for Poppy Red...BY NAME, rather than a simple cross for it.

Hey Guys/ Andrew...and other brainpower...

I know the paint code issue is beaten to death, not only on this thread but all over this site. Sorry to continue. But I have a question. I said above my top was still in paint prison. the white is done. Painter just called and hes having trouble with the Astra Blue. PPG Ditzler code says R 2137... but hes saying it doesn't come up metallic. he says it comes up as a solid color. Anyone dealt with THAT little gem? Maybe my paint guy (who actually has a track record of doing very good work on high end cars) is just missing something.

Tell him to drop the R and search again. The PPG code is just 2137. And it is definitely a metallic (Poly) color.

the outer portion would be zinc originally, and the backing is stainless. Screws zinc.

Here are pics of the top back from paint. Astra Blue Metallic successfully crossed by the numbers. When I first saw it inside the paint shop, I thought it looked too dark...then in the sunlight, I thought it looked too bright... then in my shop under fluorescents, I thought it looked too grey. LOL. so Ive decided it looks just right. Pics are hard to tell of course.

Dear EB friends,

I AM SO ASHAMED. Part of it was just "life happens" as they say..part of it was A.D.D., part of it is distracted by other interests and projects. But when Drew Peroni mentioned the Stroppe Hauler resto project, and the idea of a June 2021 50 Year Stroppe Reunion in New England, a small fire was lit deep within...and now I am on a mission to finish 22491. Admittedly, it was just the kick in the pants I needed, and there's nothing like a deadline to hold one accountable.

As a recap, the body and top are out of the paint shop and sitting on a "donor" frame from some other truck I used to have. 22491's original frame can be detailed separately. I will detail the body on the donor frame, detail the chassis separately and then mate them together when the time is right.

The drivetrain is on the stand, the chassis is "mostly" stripped but still rolling on some old junk rubber. I have the factory correct Stroppe steelies painted in Wimbledon White, and ready for install.

I have plenty to do, but will start with stripping the frame and having the chassis components blasted. Final chassis disassembly this weekend, take to blasting in the next 10 days. I will be applying chassis paint in the next couple weeks.

Im motivated to refinish the chassis to sheens (not charlie sheen) as close to original as possible. (everbody keeps saying, "do what YOU want with the truck".. like I'm doing it under duress, but I WANT to restore the truck as close as possible, except for a small susp lift, oversize tires, and possibly headers and intake.

From research, is it fair to assume the following are true of bronco undercarriage finishes:

1 - Frame rails, front and rear end housings, radius arms, leaf springs, drive shafts, crossmember etc should be semi-gloss black?

2 - differential gear carrier is red oxide primer

3 - sheet metal of underbody tub is red oxide primer?

That should get me well underway on chassis prep.

Chassis ready for blasting..

All, I did get the chassis and front rear axles stripped and ready this last weekend for blasting. Hope to take it all to blast this coming weekend. After that, the plan is probably to use an Eastwood product for chassis black paint. Seems like a good value and performance.

Elec fuel pump added to Stroppe?

There is an electric fuel pump that was bolted to the rear crossmember of 22491... Im 99% sure this was added by a PO, maybe the mechanical pump failed at some point in its life and this was the fix at the time? Just making sure this isnt a ford special option or something. or a Stroppe thing?
