1993 Runs Fine for ~10min - Then stalls

If you see this more than once, sorry. I posted in several Bronco forums...

I have a 1993 Bronco with 5.0 engine. It will fire right up and run/drive fine for approximately 10min, then it stalls, sputters, bogs, whatever you want to call it...It doesn't completely die, but it may as well.

But, when you kill it and restart it, the problem goes away. Then, after some amount of minutes, usually 5-10, the problem happens again. So, another kill and restart.

I've replaced plugs, wires, coil, distributor, and the ECM.

Odd thing is that when "it" is happening, you can hear the engine sucking for air harder than it does normally.

ANY ideas are greatly appreciated.

Plugged catalytic convertor? Had something similar happen in a '95 Dodge 4wd once. All of the guts of the converter came loose and stopped up the muffler. Mine was covered under warranty back then though.

Are you watching the temperature gauge at the times this happens? Is it maybe coming off of it's cold running cycle and on to it's normal temp cycle? Closed loop into open loop I guess it would be?
When it starts running whacko, try pouring cold water over some key components in the ignition system. Such as the coil, the ignition control module, and the TFI module on the side of the distributor. Or maybe yours, being a '93, has the remote TFI? Is this a 5.0 or 5.8 engine?

Not many of us here have experience with your particular setup by the way. This is primarily for the Early Broncos from '66 to '77, but with a little tidbit here and there that might help yours. Otherwise, definitely make sure you're posting it also in the Ford Truck Enthusiast and Full Size Bronco forums.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. And I do apologize for posting in the wrong forum...newbie! I'm afraid I found the first step in my problems. Checking on fuel delivery, I dropped the fuel tank last night to have a look around. Found a dirt/mud dauber nest floating around inside the tank! I've never seen anything like it...So, I"m working on that now and will update.

Thanks for the update. In the gas tank! Yowza..
I bet the full size truck guys would be interested to hear that.
I wonder how long it sat somewhere (with the gas cap off?) for that to happen.
