I have a twist-in cap that holds the gutted PCV in the PS VC. The functional PCV is in the back of the intake. The DS VC just has a low-profile sealed oil cap and requires a long funnel to fill. Some of the aftermarket valve covers have knockouts for PCV grommets which would make the gutted PCV idea easy to do.

If it were me I'd try Doug's idea of drilling and tapping the boss on the throttle body before welding on the blingy air intake.

I also agree that 45 at the rail doesn't make much sense. It should be 65 (58 in this case) throughout the system. The pump should be able to deadhead right around 100 psi, so something isn't quite right there.
Are you referring to drilling and tapping here?

Are you saying drill and tap this area for a 3/8 barb?

What’s that hose fitting angled up in the background? Not for cooling water for the EGR I wouldn’t think.
Wouldn’t that be in a spacer in between the throttlebody and the intake?

Looks to be pretty close to 3/8 inch diameter and in approximately the right location.
Although I admit, I haven’t seen one like that before, it’s near about where most of the PCV fittings go on some of these setups.
Now you’re making me want to go pop the hood on mine to see what the differences are in a 97/98 model.

Yes. Done a few myself.

In fact (this was 20 years ago) I had an Explorer 5.0 throttle body that lacked the port. Walked a junkyard with a pair of pliers. Found a Ford with an intact throttle body and the type of fitting found on 5.0 Mustangs along with a bazillion other Fords. Pried it out of the throttle body with said pliers. At home, drilled out Explorer throttle body casting at the location you circled and reamed (because I had the reamer) to .375", then using some of my beloved J-B Weld, pressed and glued the fitting into the throttle body. Worked great.

Ok, I knew there had to be another part to this system and I’m not crazy. Thanks to @Broncobowsher for posting this 12 years ago and I happened to find it on a web search.

There’s an accumulator to account for changes in pressure for when the injectors fire.

Here's an ancient photo. Nothing visible there exists under my hood anymore but you get the idea. It's exactly what I described in my previous post, you can see the J-B Weld bead if you look closely.

Can't beat holley for pressure regulators and gauges. Can't beat JB weld to just well fix things.

Can't beat a 96 explorer throttle body because it already has the tube along with a shorter TPS (more hood clearance).

Truly. But in 2000, when I was putting that together, they weren't as widely available and I probably wasn't even aware of that. I was glad to get my hands on what I could. Fortunately the 1" body lift on my Bronco obviated the concern about the TPS.

I think it turned out well...

And being on the back side close to the gutted PVC, it can't be seen.

So I got a new fuel pressure guage and get 50 psi, reads about 46psi while running. I am going to change my regulator to the adjustable type on the firewall.

But I also hooked a vacuum guage to it while it was idling, it does a random surge about every 10 seconds. Still only runs with the MAF unplugged.

Here is my idle vacuum. What's normal?

That looks like 5" of vacuum. That is very low. for a stock engine, 20" range is pretty normal. Performance engine that has a thumping cam that is known for not having good vacuum at idle will still pull about 10" of vacuum.

Reckon I need to pull the upper and see what I missed.

meh hold on, what is the fuel pump pressure with all the regulators not in the circuit, bypass everything except fuel pump output, what is it? Get that pressure to 65, then start hooking up pressure regulators and see what it is then. Once you determine it's not fuel, which you have not done yet, then you can do a cold crank cylinder compression check.

You MAY have low vacuum because it is not idling right.

i have a Paxton adjustable regulator (I think made by Aeromotive, but not positive) that I was going to use but doesn’t fit very well where I was going to put it. I think it adjusts up to 70. Lmk if you’re interested. I could prob set it to what you want for you before I send it.

It brand new, but has been sitting for years, never mounted. I did just test it with air and set it at 45 lbs.

Just posted the regulator. Yours if you want it. $100.
