351w Swap Oil Pan and Distributor Options?

Just picked up at rebuilt 351w roller long block and need recommendations on oil pan and distributor.

Looking at these oil pans and all seam to be the same product. Im concerned about the comments of leaking of drain plugs. Also, I haven't found a pan that will accept a high volume oil pump. Not that its totally needed.

Are there better options out there?

As for distributor. I would like to run my current stock Durispark electronics 'if possible' and I believe I will need the distributor gear to be melodized (spelling?) Also, I may go EFI later like, FAST, ProFlow etc.

This is the came I'm running.

Thanks,

I bought the wild horses oil pain and I have had no leaks or concerns. with the roller cam you will need a steel (melonized) distributor gear. I am running the holley sniper on mine and I am using an MSD distributor and box. if you use the stock distributor i believe you will have to use a coil driver, I am not familiar with that setup.

Thanks do you happen to have the part number for the distributor?

That is a replacement oil pan kit for an 80's crown vic. Used a lot in 351 swapped fox body mustangs as well.
The 80's F150 oil pan works, once a clearance spot has been done for the front diff or some big bump stops installed.
I think it is Canton that makes a Bronco specific pan that has the diff clearance built in.

As for the distributor, the gear material must match the cam material. Mix incompatible materials and the gears destroy themselves and send metal shrapnel through the engine. Don't guess, be sure to get this right.

Thanks, that's what I've been reading on the pans. Im hoping the Ford Performance/Crown Vic pans that I listed will clear the diff. I have a 3.5" lift with D44.

The Canton and Melidon pans a pricey!

The thing with lift kits, they may clear while parked or driven on smooth roads. But will they clear when the front actually compresses? If you keep the factory bump stops, that is also the same compressed suspension as stock.

On the oil pan....I run a 96 E350 van pan. I'm street only and it's not been an issue. 2.5 SL 1 inch BL

I do off road some and want to make sure I don't limit my travel with the pan. I have Duff long arms, F250 towers and long travel shock with larger bump stops.

The pans you listed are the same part. And that pan will clear a high volume pump, though unless you are planning to run fairly loose bearing clearances, a stock volume pump will work fine.

As for diff clearance, a straightforward after-the-fact way to determine clearance is to remove the coil springs, then use a floor jack to lift the front diff up until it smashes the bump stops.

I have the Bronco-specific Canton pan on my 408 with a 2-1/2" lift. I removed coils and bump stops then jacked the axle up until it bottomed. Tie rod hit the track bar mount on the drivers side, axle hit the frame on the passenger side but the diff never touched the pan.

Thanks for the replies gents

I think Im going to chance it and go with the Vic option since the others are so pricey. Below is the link for the pricey options so others searching have them.

Just to be clear, the Crown Vic pan is the FRPP M-6675-A58 pan sold by Summit and WH. It'll fit fine, and unlike the aftermarket pans it includes the pickup tube, #3 main bearing stud-bolt for the pickup, and a dipstick.

Do yourself a favor and get this pan gasket: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6710-a351?rrec=true
The metal core means you don't have to hyper anal about bolt torque.

You will need a 351W distributor. The 302 is almost the same, but wrong. The bore in the block is slightly larger, the 302 will fit loose. And the oil pump driveshaft will be the wrong size.

You need a 351W distributor with a gear for a roller cam. Stock Duraspark works amazingly well. Someone else will have to reccomend and advance curve. The ford pickup coil looks just like the one in the high dollar MSD distributors (hint hint). Unless you need a fancy package to hold that pickup, Duraspark is fine. I would not recommend the HEI distributor. There are hood clearance issues and they are known for breaking the shaft in the middle.
