Looking for recommendations on a controller for my 4R70W. I have a gen 1 Holley Sniper that is running good so thinking about the controller that Holley has for the Sniper but don't know much about these and not sure what I need. Thanks for your help!

US Shift has been in the stand alone transmission controller business since the early 2000's.
Used there stuff (older models) on a few projects and have been very happy with them. What I have seen is the newer stuff is even better.

Thanks! I like the look of the diagnostic features. I don't think the Holley does that.

I am curious about programming these. Does this take hours of programming, driving, reprogramming, driving, swearing, etc. or is it pretty quick?

I have two MSD Trans Controller units for sale with harnesses. Very user friendly and comes with a handheld programmer for easy diagnostic and setup. No laptop needed.

Depends on how picky you are about shift points. There are pre-made base tunes. A few minutes to adjust basic stuff (full throttle shift points) and it works.

An example of fine tuning. Driving a road with traffic I would be just below the next shift point. Thought to myself this would be so much better if it would just shift 1-2 MPH sooner. Pulled into a parking lot. Got that upshift line. Bumped a single point a number or two. Now it drove that road better. Wasn't needed, but was wanted. And was easy and could be done.

Basic tuning is fairly easy as well. Give a throttle setting, say 10%. Hold that throttle and think about the shifts. Too soon, too late? Go into the table, and move the 10% shift points to what you like. Smooth out the lines. Do again at differet throttle settings.

The more of a stick shift driver you are, the more you can set the shift points to what you want. You can do downshift points as well. Downshifts too soon, move that line to force a deeper throttle to downshift. Or go the other way and have it drop sooner if that is what is needed.

But it all starts with a base tune. And those are included.

Thanks for that! The US shift will work with the Sniper to get TPS position which is handy. Anyone with experience tieing into a Sniper?

Someone makes a breakout pigtail. I remember seeing it when I was getting the progressive throttle linkage kit years ago. The progressive linkage kit was what made the sniper go from a jumpy tip in into something drivable. I don't remember where I got it.

US shift makes the harness, it's $75 extra, just wondering if anyone has used it.

I used MicroSquirt. Building the wiring harness was the most challenging - I used a pre-stubbed harness as the base then soldered on the Ford connections I picked up at the junk yard. Then I downloaded a basic tune and had it shifting fine from the start. I have also tailored my shift points and idle to make it nice to drive. You can also change shift pressure based on MAP which is cool - I have a pretty firm upshift when I am on throttle!
