Is the shift arm pointed forward towards the bellhousing park?

Or is when the arm all the way back towards the rear axle park?

Clockwise is park. The lever bolts on the 4R70W so it's pretty easy to modify it to point wherever you need it to.

Gonna be first starting a new build soon and didn't want to start it in 1st till I get my shifter lined out, LOL.

I always check by spinning the output yoke. If it spins, either the transfer case is in neutral or the transmission is not in park. Remember an automatic will spin freely like neutral so long as the engine is not running (no pump pressure to apply the clutch packs)

If you didn't fill the trans with fluid yet, I recommend pulling the pan and setting up your shifter so you can see exactly where it is landing on each detent. It definitely eased my mind knowing I had everything exactly where I wanted it, not guessing what you can't see.
