Hello having a 5.0 roller motor build for my 68 Bronco and trying to get some input on cam grind,

The builder suggested this cam grind 224 @.50 284 @ .006 115 lob separation 454 lift.

Looking for a cam that idles well with low end torque
Motor will have Fitech Fuel injection (already have it on the bronco) and Iron heads about 9.5 compression.

The bronco has an NV3550 with 4.11 gears and 33x10.5 tires

Thanks
Chris

A lot of people have been happy with the Explorer cam. EFI Guy has mention a Comp Cams grind in an older post.

Interesting grind by today's standards. One trend is to go with less duration and more lift. Yours has a fairly long duration, but low lift. Wide lobe separation too, which is good for most especially with EFI.
But it's sure close to what I like in these engines too, so can't say anything's wrong with the builder's recommendations.
I like to keep the lift below .510 if I can for a mild engine, and the duration below 280. The ones I actually purchased for my engines are quite a bit lower in fact.

My roller kit is a CompCams CL35-512-8 which is 258/264, Lift .480/.480, 114°
Not a whole lot different from a stock Explorer cam when it comes right down to it.
Some others in my area, as discussed on the NorCalBroncos site, are running the 35-308-8 266/270, Lift .533/.533, 114° cam and are happy. A real stump puller, but I wanted just a little bit less, hoping for better on-road fuel economy.

Another of that ilk: Comp 35-349-8 264/270, Lift .512/.512, 114°
Right in the sweet spot for power and torque in a truck I'd say. Between mild and wild...

Just for reference.....
Explorer F4TE-6250-BA Hydraulic Roller
Intake at 1.6 rocker ratio .422" lift 256 duration
Exhaust at 1.6 rocker ratio .448" lift 266 duration
1.7 rockers is .449 intake and .476 Exhaust
116 lobe separation

I ran it for a bit. Pulled well in my W.

I ended up with this one.....It's a long story/thread about bubbles in my recovery tank.......but ended up with P heads and changed the cam too. It's a bit more than Paul likes and a bit less than the "stump puller"
Comp 35-349-8/XE264HR
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 264/270
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 212/218
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .512/.512
LSA/ICL:114/110
RPM Range: 1,500-5,500
