New American Autowirre harness, new neutral safety switch. These are the wires that need clarication:

Which one is the NSS? Does polarity matter? Howard, baffled and befuddled in beautiful west Michigan. Oh, and thank you.

Oh, and another detail: The AA harness has two purple wires that connect to the NSS, one labled 'coil' and one labelled 'NSS. That's why I asked about polarity. My hunch is that they can be switched and work either way, y/n?

The red/blue wires are for the NSS. The other two are the backup switch. The switch just completes the circuit so polarity should not matter.

Does that mean the red connector? Does polarity matter for the NSS? Thanks.

No. Black connector in your pic. The polarity does not matter. You have power feeding down one wire, and back up the other when the switch closes.

What transmission are you using? If it’s a stock type C4, grab the neutral safety switch connector and see if both of those connectors from the AAA harness line up together.
The red with blue stripe wires are what the neutral safety switch interrupts to keep the starter from cranking and the black with red are the back up lamps.
A standard NSS handles both duties.

And as was said, neither one is polarity sensitive.
