Air Cleaner Options

What are some options for air cleaners on top of a V8 with 4 barrel carb that DON'T hit the hood. My stock air cleaner hits the hood and pushes down on distributor.

Is there a product out there that could maybe have a "cold air" induction system that would work?

Thanks for the help

I use a drop base and a filter lid. They make off-set drop bases too so you can get around carb and distributor issues. All the other intake adapters and tubes I tried didn’t seem to get enough air. I found a drop base on summit, full size 14”? Filter lid, 3” filter and it all fits 302, high rise intake, no body lift.

I'm working through a similar issue and happened to find the factory air intake horn for a 5.9L Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) is a perfect fit on the Edelbrock 4bbl carb. The intake tube is about 3-1/8" OD so now I'm looking for a simple adapter to be able to run a typical 3" or 3-1/2" cone style filter over the passenger fender.

Thanks for that information. Do you think you will have any restriction on the intake air?

You have a pic of your setup? A "stock" air cleaner shouldn't be touching your distributor and its about as low of a profile as you are going to get (see Pic). There are plenty of low-profile air cleaners out there that "should" work but want to see what you have installed. If your intake is really tall, that will be a problem.
Here is a good thread for you to read..

Like Eoth said, your stock air cleaner should work and not interfere with the hood unless you have a high rise intake manifold. I have an Edelbrock drop base air cleaner atop an Edelbrock Performer and Holley 4160 and have no clearance issues, but do have the small cap distributor.

As others have said, a stock EB air cleaner doesn't come anywhere near the distributor. If yours is pushing the distributor down, it's highly likely you don't have a stock EB air filter.

Do you have any idea what vehicle your "stock" air cleaner was made for? With a photo we would likely be able to at least say that much.

I honestly don't know, but I figure if it was good enough to feed a factory fresh 360cid V8 it should be good enough to feed 302cid of worn out FoMoCo ;D
