By 'heat tube' are you meaning the tube that draws hot air off the exhaust manifold when the flap in the snorkel is closed?

Can buy a "fitting" that hose clamps to a header tube and flexible aluminum tubes.

Yes Fujiford, that is the one I mentioned in this thread yesterday at 2:32 - now I have the part number - noww wondering which is better - that or the original style cuz the intake is up front at grill pulling in colder air

Thanks, and yes that's what I meant by "heat tube". Any idea of a brand for that fitting or a vendor?

Some headers, a Thorley that I have for one, come with them tacked in place. I want to say that most header mfg's. offer them. Easy enough to make if you can't find one, a piece of 1/2" x 1/8" strap welded across the end of a short section of muffler tube of the right OD for the aluminum tube to fit over. Hose clamp around a header tube and over the strap to hold it in place. The flexy aluminum tube is or was a Help! type item. Correct term or not I don't know, but I've sometimes heard this system called a "heat stove."

The fact you have headers makes the fresh air intake more desirable because of the greatly increased under hood heat. Both intake heat stoves and choke heat tube systems are available at Mustang parts venders. The intake heat stove was OE on '83-'84 Mustang 5.0 4V HO GTs and the after market makes the choke heat tube for early 289 Mustangs with headers.

Biggest issue for it and the OE filter assembly both is the lack of clearance for stand-off above the venturis. No help for that w/ a stock hood & no BL.

Not a fan, at all, of oiled filters. BT, DT in dusty environs and they don't work. Lots of people with contrary opinions, mine is the result of seeing dirt trapped in the oil on the inside of the filter supporting parts. Hard to argue against dirt that has clearly gone thru the "filter."

That said, there are non-oiled cleanable filters made. If you can enclose it and then duct fresh air to the enclosure it'll work OK.
I'd give some thought to using an OEM EFI air filter assembly instead. Enclosure would be done for you, and ducting cold air should be easier.

Tune up shop seemed to be happy with adding a Q-jet lid to a stock air cleaner. Before the change he was complaining constantly how the stock air cleaner was making it run rich.

ok you lost me on a few terms - "Standoff" - BL - BT - DT - OEM EFI --- ok alot of terms haha -

Stand-off refers to the pulsating column of air & fuel that exists above the carb venturis. Not easy to see, but in the right light etc. it can be seen.

BL = Body Lift

BT, DT = Been there, done that

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

EFI = Fuel Injection

thanks for the definitions I guess you are saying use the summit plenum, with an EFI filter assembly, something enclosed then I can vent it with fresh air

I've used the stock air filter on 289s, 302s, and 351s, and never had an issue with the engine running rich. The space over the carb is limited by the hood. The stock air cleaner has more room over the venturis than any open element type, and the stand off has never been a problem either. If it were, a spacer of any height can be put on top of the carb, and a correspondingly shorter one can go under the carb. I'll always recommend the OE cleaner, until I find something better. The expense of an OE air cleaner with all the parts shouldn't be much over 100. Put a post in "parts wanted". It's obvious the EB air cleaner looks different than others but it's equally obvious Ford put money and effort into designing and building it for a reason.

Thats the way Im leaning, tho it will be more than 100 - people here have the bare bones housing, but not the attatchments - TBP has the whole package for 250-350 (The price of housing varies on its condition 125.00-225.00)

Here's a Bronco parts for sale thread with a photo of what looks like a '73 engine compartment with the whole air cleaner assembly. Look at post #4 on this thread. A PM can tell you if the air cleaner is still available. Finding parts for classics requires patience.
