I have explorer rear disc with Lokar cable kit, http://tinyurl.com/Lokarcables . i have eliminated the foot brake and will have a hand brake berween seats. Has anyone else done this and if so, what handbrake did you use.The lokar and geniie are 200 bucks. undecide on spending that much yet. leaning towards ordering but wanted to poll the audience first.

Great question, right in my wheelhouse! Like you, I wanted to get rid of the foot pedal brake. The first thought was to use a Pinto handbrake 20200117_164945.jpg along with the Pinto housing. 1706364451605.jpeg I still have both, btw, should you be drooling. Got

thinking a bit more, and realized I also wanted a console and console mount shifter, so I looked for such an animal at the local pick-n-pulls. Found a few Fomoco products that had all the necessary ingredients and pulled the trigger. 20231127_134016.jpg Had to do a bit of modifying to get it to

the right height 20240113_110550.jpg but I think it will work. 1706365290204.jpeg Don't know about cables yet. I do know Lokar

is outstanding quality and ouch-standing pricing. When I get to attaching the cables, I'll likely go to a Rube Goldberg Plan B.

How much work would it take to do a hand brake on existing Bronco E-brake system with the drum brakes? Or is this one of those “if you have to ask, it’s probably not worth the cost”?

The short answer, what can you find? Pinto is nice, but where to find one?
Hit up you local pick-a-part yard and cruise everything. Domestic, import. Park brake stuff is pretty interchangable. If off enough, a little leverage change as it goes into the equalizer. Not that different than how the stock Bronco cable and lever thing works.

If you can find an inexpensive handbrake, Gennie and Lokar make a set of cables. I may have a set of Lokar that have not been used.

Howard on this thread ended up with an extra pinto.

Mine has an early Fox body handle in it - probably similar to a Pinto. Works well with a small custom subframe underneath that Dad built years ago.

You could alsojust spend a bit more and do the E-Stopp like I did. It's a lot more money, but you don't have that handle there and get some space back. Pulls prob much harder than your hand or foot would as well.

Do you have an installed pic and approximate size?

It is pretty large but you could put it anywhere. Agaso makes a bracket for it to go in a spot that looks good but this spot seemed to work for me. I think I wrote about how I mounted it in my build thread but here is a Pic. Happy to take more if you need but not home now. It works great. It pulls 600lbs of force on the brakes and then stops so nice that it's not a distance measurement but a force measurement.

You can put the button anywhere you want.

I think it's 15x2 but then you need space for the cables. But again, since it's using cables, it can be anywhere, even on the outside of the frame rail.

I am still considering this: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Loka...hpfvavpjbYKpLHF0LEVdQcmFCoZEq3mBoCX-AQAvD_BwE because the cage blocks the pedal.

A bit pricey, but no plastic housing. My conclusion was to mount to left of drivers seat since I am not running AUX tank, but I could go to the right of the twin-stick as well.
My conclusion for left of driver was so I could reach it w/o slipping off my shoulder straps in case of you-know-what.

BTW & somewhat unrelated: Last weekend I lost rear brake line however WH master + WH proportioning valve kept front brakes working perfectly and even reasonable pedal. With stock centering valve, I would have no brakes after I lost one side, no doubt because of internal leakage.

I don't know if their handle is long enough or not for leverage, but this company has been a go-to in the industry for years. Their handle assemblies appear to be a good bit cheaper than the Speedway option too.

Shoot Todd, for that price I may just be the Guiney pig. If it works, just got to make sure no one tells the mfg. If they know it will work on an EB the price will skyrocket like all the others have the last 5 years or so..... :geek:

Thanks for posting!
