I think Ron Davis is sticking with radiators at this point :). I saw someone mentioning Ron Francis doing Explorer ECUs and that was news to me as well. I went to their website and checked and they have this listed for Explorer V8s but nothing mentioned about ECU flashing:

Uhh, not something Ron Francis would be doing I’m pretty sure.

Just wiring.

And I’ve always liked them and ordered my wiring from them… I expected 4-6 weeks though and was quoted 16 when I called. It’s finally coming tomorrow!

Probably referring to me on FB, Ron Francis does these explorers ecu/ecm, his website is clunky and out of date, but his team is good and knowledgeable, pick up the phone and call them, he has mine and i expect it back in a week or 2 as they told me they were 4 to 6 weeks out with my harness and he would have the ecu/ecm sent back with it to save on shipping.

I’m glad you got ahold of Garry. I spoke to him recently. And I’ll send my ecm to him for my next build. But will just keep the egr, evap syst, and rear o2 sensers. As I run a cat on my current Bronco. Wife doesn’t like the fresh smog smell. It does make for a more enjoyable ride now. He did lay out everything like you quoted. This is to cover his butt and not get fined like all the big diesel tuners have been fined. All these rules are ridiculous. My 99 explorer efi motor with a cat burns way cleaner than The original non smog 289 that came in the bronco. Just saying.

I have moates quarterhorse, eec ananylzer, binary editor, with the dongle/cpu cable for sale/rent
tell me more. I know nothing about that. I am swapping a 97 gt40P in my 74 bronco and don't want downstream O2, evap, and purge. I was wondering if I can get a programmer and that will work, but don't have any experience with that.

You want someone with experience, especially with an expensive motor.

I recently went through all of this with Gary. Im running 99 explorer efi. I had to supply a pic of my 66 vin tag and also of the block casting number. The one i used is from a 73 302 block, which is pre emissions.

While you could lose the evap and purge ( not a great idea due to fumes), pretty sure programming the loss of an o2 sensor would mean the EFS could never properly trim the fuel. It would be either rich or lean. It needs to run richer at start, accel, and leans out when warm. No o2, no closed loop. Even setups like snipers use an o2 system.
