Alternative Heater Hose Solution

I went a different route with the heater hoses on my 72 and they turned out really good for under $25. The first one that goes up to the heater valve I used a Gates 19045 which curved right around the valve cover. If you cut it right you can use the other half to run up to the intake fitting. With the preformed bend in the hose it will clear your carburetor electric choke and air cleaner. The second hose I used was a Gates 28472 from the core to the water pump. I ran it along the wheelwell with a couple clamps. As you can see in the pictures it puts the valve about perfect height with the cable and lined up great.

Interesting. Clean routing. Thanks for posting it up.
Wouldn’t be the best for a stock carburetor where the upper heater hose is supposed to go up next to the choke housing, but for an aftermarket carb like yours, it looks great.

I have a question about some of your vacuum roofing, however.
There’s a short small vacuum hose connected to the base of the carburetor that goes up to a port at the top of the carburetor. That looks like a big vacuum leak.
There’s also another vacuum hose connected to the back of the intake manifold (that looks like a brake hose) that goes somewhere out of the picture.
Can you post up a picture of the other end of that?

The small vacuum hose is a fresh air intake for the choke on the Holley and the big hose in the back goes to my brake booster.

Interesting. Never heard of such a configuration. Nor can I think of a reason for it.

Where did that diagram come from? Got a link to any more information included with it?

Thanks.

Thanks! Appreciate the link.
I have seen those short loops of hose many times before, but never really paid attention to them on this type of carb since I had never owned one myself.
There are other carbs with short hoses for the "choke pull-off" control, and those with hoses connected between vacuum and fresh air for the choke stove, but still can't imagine why a choke housing needs cooled intake air getting pulled through it.
Maybe to cool the 12v heated coil? Seems counterproductive in that case, so that's probably not the purpose.

Maybe I'll do a little reading up on the subject...

Thanks again

Paul
