Another 3G wiring question

Finishing up the 3G today. Most diagrams indicate that the yellow wire from the alt regulator plug be terminated at either the bat post on the solenoid or looped over to the bat post on the alt itself. Looking over the diagrams it looks like you could splice into the yellow wire coming out of the harness (152Y in the '72 diagram) that goes to the (now gone) voltage regulator. Am I looking at that right? I think that would look cleaner, and would clear up some (much needed) room on the sol. post.

The problem with that your old wiring is for a 40-60 amp alternator and your new alternator is 90 to 120 amps or more. best to run heavy wire from the new alternator to the starter solenoid. even better if you use a mega fuse in line with the modifications.

At the very least, get a positive (alt to solenoid) kit that can handle the additional amperage. I went junkyard for my alternator and harness, but spent the $ for the positive cable and fuse from WH.

Here's my install in case you missed it:

My next todo is install a voltmeter. Let me know if I can help with any questions or if your like more photos.

I was referring to the small yellow "a" wire for the regulator. Not the main charge wire.

What are you left with at the current time? Is your 4-position regulator plug still intact? Or have you cut it out of the system already?
Not exactly sure what you mean by "splicing into the Yellow wire" because if you no longer need it, what would you be splicing into it?

You can basically do any of the above with the old Yellow wire. Connecting positive-to-positive does not hurt anything, so you can put a ring terminal on it and connect it to the battery side of the starter relay. But that area usually gets pretty busy on our Broncos, so you may not have much room there. Especially with the new heavier gauge alternator charge wire already taking up more space there too.

In your particular year Bronco (you said this is the '72?) the regulator was over on the fender skirt near the battery and starter relay, correct? If so and the Yellow wire reaches without adding an extension, and you have room on your relay/solenoid's terminal, go for it.

If it does not reach, but you know you might need it in the future, add a new power distribution block/stud/thingy and mount it there. Of if you know you will not need that old wire for some other duty, just cut it off where it exits the harness, tape it up and tuck it away safely out of sight.
