Dual ARB compressor Q.

Mine is losing air.

The leak is in the compressor.
Even when plugged at the OUTLET on the compressor it will hold air for appr 11 sec, then turns on for about 1/3 second to build air pressure and then sits for 11 sec.

Obviously this is not a line issue.

The compressor last year received 2 new pistons & cyl and all new O rings etc.

This am I tore it apart & replaced the O rings.

Guess what, no improvement.

I will call ARB again tomorrow am and ask them if the check valve assembly can be purchased separately as what else could cause an internal leak?

Tempted to let it build up pressure, plug the air inlet quickly, unplug the electrical & dunk it in a horse trough so I could locate the leak!!

Cross posting to try to find an answer ASAP. Thanks all.

Can't help with those compressors beyond repeating suggesting the soapy water trick or some Snoop if you have any.

If you have a tank I'd look at moving the check valve to it. McMaster has been my source for those. Then you can unload the compressor so it isn't starting against a pressure head. Even if it is designed to do that, I'd expect it to live longer when it doesn't need to. Ironically I use the ARB solenoids that came with the 4rnnr's ARB's for the unloading valve. I used big rig air toggle switches (valves) to turn the 4rnnr's ARBs on and off, so they were redundant. 'T' the solenoid into the supply line between the compressor and the check valve. Put a sintered bronze muffler/filter in the exhaust port and plug the pressure-in port. Wire it in parallel to the compressor's relay or contactor.

What does ARB use for an unloaded valve?
Can you go to external check valve?
They don't have an unloader.
If you go to an external check valve you will need to move the pressure switch to downstream of the check valve. Original has the pressure switch on a little chamber where the two compressors meet and where you attach the output to.

Just to be "that guy":
Puma PD1006
I separate the compressor from the rest of it and don't use much else. I've run two of them on DD's, so they do run daily. 4rnnr's ran for ~1.5 years before I sold the truck. Snowball has one that's been running for not quite a year so far. No issues, but I did have a learning curve on the in-rush current. I think that I ended up using a 60A 285 series breaker because the 50A that I'd guesstimated would work would pop once in a very great while.

I talked to ARB today. And they told me there is no check valve in the arb compressor as I figured, since there wasn't one when I took it apart.

In my haste i did not run jumper wires, pull existing wires and do all kinds of CRUD to be able to run the compressor with the top off of it in my Bronco. Therefore I did not even check the hi/low switch with soapy wtlater solution like I did every other fitting & my bumper at least twice- but the high/low switch was the culprit-it which was leaking. Wow, rookie move on my part but the brass was leaking on it.

I didn't test it like that because it was less time to pull the compressor apart and put new o rings in it then to do the last check which meant jumpers, pulling wiring so I could run it with the top & fan off of it "in" the rig (hanging in the rig).

Of course, their kit that's posted on their website #320301 which are the replacement o-rings for the dual arb does not supply enough o-rings for the dual arb! No joke! Nowhere on their website or anybody else's website for that matter, says that you need two of these kits at the discounted price of twenty five dollars each to reseal a dual arb. I did give them a piece of my mind on the fact that when somebody sees a kit with 8 o- rings for their dual arb and they get it, and it's not enough o-rings, after you paid shipping and waited five days. Then you have to pay shipping and wait five more days. It's a little bit frustrating. He understood and said their tech guys are supposed to be fixing that. lol
Yeah right!

You can usually walk up to within 50ft or less whenever you want... different story if you are running at them yelling & waving your arms! :)

Personally I don't think they see this anywhere else & they take off! LOL

They charge you at times also & the Dept of F&W will gladly give you a permit to take those out. Their excuse for a way to thin the "overwhelming population" (their quote) in our area
