I installed 5 gauges this past week. All gauges work great but i am having issues with the fuel level gauge. It may be that I need a new sending unit. I will buy one for sure just in case but in the mean time I want to make sure it is connected properly.

Can someone help me out and tell me where this gauge gets wired into? I didn't install the gauge...had a buddy of mine do it at his shop. I want to make sure its wired correctly.

All help is appreciated!

is it the Right ohms?

those things come in several different OHM ratings and they have to match your sending unit.

you can test it with a multi meter but it isn't convenient. you have to hook one lead into the power in on the sending unit and the other lead onto the wire where it hooks into the gauge to get a proper reading. doing it this way lets you know that not only is the sending unit functioning but so is the wiring between the gauge and the unit. once that is hooked up you need to cycle the sending unit from full to empty and measure the ohm range.

thanks for the input guys...the orange wire! That's what i needed to know.

Its the right gauge if i have the stock sending unit. I guess it doesn't hurt to replace the sending unit anyway with a new one. I hate wiring...ill look into it this weekend.

You should be able to find that Orange wire right out on the drivers firewall headed into the cab and of course ultimately headed to your fuel tank gauge switcher.

More Info: original sending units are non-linear. I think all new ones are linear, so you need to know if your gauge is linear or non-linear. If your stock sending unit is good and you need a non-linear sending unit don't toss it the old one, someone with a stock gauge may want it.

Many auto meter gauges have to be calibrated to the sending unit you have. Download the instructions for your gauge and see what you have.
