Bad coolant temp sensor = fast idle and surge

I've been chaseing down a fast idle / surge condition this week . I run a 92 Mustang EFI /A9L comp.
When I ran codes , nothing unusual came up even though the check engine light would come on occasionally.

But the surge and light never came on together . After swapping out spare tps, setting the voltage (.98 ) , aic ? , and messin' with the mass air sensor it came to me that the problem would only happen after the engine warmed up completely.

As it was idleing , the idle would surge off and on . When it surged I pulled the lead off the coolant sensor, and the idle dropped , put it back on , up it went .

I left the lead off as I drove to the parts store , got a new one , put it in right there and drove home with out any surge !!

Re-set the idle ,Re-checked the tsp voltage , pulled the ground off the battery for 1/2hr or so and was good to go .

Drove it around today , no light , no surge !!! It made people nervous at crosswalks when the idle would creep up to 1100 rpm or so ;D

The check engine light has been coming on for a second or two ocassionally for about a year now , but nothing showed up when I ran the codes. The fast idle just started this week

Hope this helps someone that may have the same problem

Now where ,,,,
where'd I put that Tequila ,,,:p

Filed away in brain memory (which is reaching capacity). I love reading problem solutions. Sure feels good to be the one figuring them out too.
