The “unhooded” PRNDL indicator also indicates an early steering column. A 73 bronco would’ve had it, where a 74 would’ve had the hood. Not sure about the pickup and other cars.
I was told that the "Stroppe PS upgrades" always used a E series van column from that era - and that an unhooded PRNDL was one of the hallmarks of a Stroppe swap. Given that this truck also has a "very interesting " frame mod to make the PS box fit, and other Stroppe clues like the rough-cast D20/C4 adapter and "very unusual" trans cooler set-up - I've just accepted the fact that this half cab got the Stroppe treatment at some point. It's really too bad that the current owner let it rot away in his driveway for 20? years, but if I can get it back on the road, maybe he'll treat it a little better. I'm going to triage the rust in the spots that are easy to reach - but I'm really hoping he just keeps in a garage and slows down the deterioration. Back on point - I'm not sure if this column swap has complicated the neutral safety or the backup light wiring. I know the turn signals work - haven't tested the back up lights yet. There's that 4 pin flat mystery harness coming out of the lower column - but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Has it ever had a tow bar?
Unknown - it has big ugly frame extensions to support a big ugly winch and bumper, but the winch was gone when he brought the truck over. I threw the bumper in my scrap pile - now I gotta go look again for tow bar attachment tabs… 😂
I’m trying to follow the logic but you guys think there was a tow light harness that plugged into the column and ran blinkers and brake lights? Never would have guessed that one - thank you.

Tow bar attachments could also have been on any bumper that was there. You never know how people fabricate that stuff.
Sometimes it’s ultra strong, but other times they tack stuff on that shouldn’t be allowed on the road!
