Do you splice (tee) into the purple wire (#5) and ground it?

www.usshift.com/downloads/4R70Wmanual.pdf scroll to pg 16

Schematic looks like it shows that you cut the wire from the vehicle connector and grd it but that can't be right.

You are referencing the purple wire.

If I read correctly,

There are multiple purple wires from the controller.

Pin 11 on the 12 pin connector is purple too. DO NOT connect to that wire.

Make sure it is on pin 5 of the 16 pin connector on the controller.

It looks like that pin only goes to the table select switch...

The table select switch. Leave it disconnected, it is on the primary shift table. Ground that wire, it goes to the secondary shift table.

There should be no splicing, tapping or teeing into that wire. It should be an open ended wire coming out of the controller.

You are looking at the wrong connecter.

pg 14 shows the 12 pin connector.

You want pin 5 of the 16 pin connector

Read it again, put your glasses on and read it again.

Unless you want to try to return a burnt up controller.

Actually I was looking at the right connector! I just lost the pin #5 purple wire where ALL the wires came out and thought it was the "other" purple wire.

thanks

All good nvrstuk, wait, neverstuck? :)

No one want's to see someone elses hard earned money burnt up for any reason.

Glad you got it straightened out. I have never seen that controller before, but I play with home automation controllers and motion controllers and know the value in zero mistakes when hooking things up.
I am basically finished wiring up my 89 Tbird ECU and have spent many hours researching the pinouts and functions. A9L ECU it is not, and I now have heaps of information on that unique EEC IV ECU.

Cheers...

You can also just use the factory cruise control buttons. Read the manual and it even gives directions on making your own without shelling out the big bucks.

But it is a little pointless. The valve body has safeties built in that prevent engine braking in 1st or 2nd gear unless the lever is manually placed there. This is to prevent a bad connection or bad sensor from downshifting the engine and sending the rods into orbit. In drive you can electronicly command 1st gear at 100 MPH and it will shift into 1st. but there will be no engine braking (or breaking) as the worst you could do is simply zing it to the rev limiter.

So the fancy paddle shifters can control the upshifts just fine, but I want engine braking on my downshifts so a paddle shifter is pointless.
