Best 23 gallon tank?

I'm looking at buying a 23 gallon tank but wondering which one is the best and why. The bronco has a 3" body lift so will it tuck up in that void and not hang down lower then stock?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

I am presently running a NWMP 23 gal tank with a 1987 build date on it. So far so good.
I believe it will tuck up only so far because there is a section on the front of the tank that sticks out under the frame cross member.

I just rough installed the wild horse Sherman tank and it is fully adjustable for height. The brackets are on unirails and would slide up as far as you need it to.

The tanks with the strut mounting are narrower because of the struts needing room inside the frame rails.
This makes them taller for the same capacity than a tank without strut mounting, so they will stick down farther.

A tank that mounts without struts such as the NWMP (now Sunset Metal Fab) which mounts with strap, or the Aerotank which has tabs that bolt to the frame will be shorter from top to bottom and stick down less.

Hey Bryan, check out some of the threads about the same subject for more info. A few here recently in fact. But "best" is kind of subjective (at best!%)) sometimes, so tell us what you want to achieve and what makes something the best for you.

Are you going to be four-wheeling this? If so, what kind of terrain?
How much capacity to you want/need? Running a second tank, or just this one?
Will your engine be fuel-injected or carbureted?
Looking for a hot-roddy kind of a look, or just general truck accessory with added capacity?

Each of these things can contribute greatly to your decision.

I was looking at Tom's bronco parts. The bronco has a carb on it, this is just going to be a weekend cruiser. I just don't want to stop every 30 miles for fuel.

Got mine from Tom's too. Non efi. No body lift, 1" susp lift. No issues at all except I have no coffee can overflow. I just make sure I don't overfill it. If your vented gas cap works, all is well. I still have the aux tank, but it has a leak at the top (usual place). I will probably replace that at some time, but it is not a major issue right now.

I bought the bcbroncos tank couple years ago.
I like it over the others because of the mounting design allowed for adjustable height , -6an connections and intank fuel
Pump for efi.

Your frame looks identical to my set up in the rear. Just wish I had the tank already. What is your suspension and future plans? I'm running a Wild Horses 3.5 with stock leaf spring shackles and heavy duty U bolts.

The thing to remember about the NWMP tanks, and other strap mounted tanks as they are known to fall out when out 4 wheeling. If you drag the strap, it pull on it and make the tank fall out.
It's suggested that after you place the tank, mark and add bolt on tabs to the tank.

I'm running a WH 2.5" suspension with Bilsteins and a 1" body. I put wilwood back disks on it and will be running 31/10.5/15s on uncut.

I too am interested in a good tank. I believe Rick's Stainless or Bronco Bob make the stainless steel tanks duffymahoney is thinking about. Does anyone have experience with these tanks?

Also, the more I think about rolling at high speed (it's a matter of when, not if) the more I wonder about a fuel cell. Does anyone have any luck with an off the shelf cell like the ATL? http://www.racingjunk.com/Fuel-Pump...-Black-Widow-Wedge-Fuel-Cell-ATLSP128-LM.html

I was going thru one of Admin's magazines he sent me last week and I saw a SS gas tank made by BroncoBob.com. The mag was from 2005 but I chkd Bob's website and he still sells that same SS large tank for like $550. It's nice and all but it's held in place by straps. I did a web search and found no one else making a SS tank for early Broncos. I'd almost be interested in making one myself as I've seen others do. I can tig SS easily, but the guts inside and where to put pumps and stuff is what deters me.

I had the BC 23 gallon tank (same tank as the WH Sherman tank) on my old 76. Great tank just wished I had cleaned it out before filling up. Lots of weld splatter left inside during its build I guess. If BC or WH would make a SS tank I'd be very interested in it if it was built like the steel ones.

Why would a stainless steel tank be worth the additional expense?

Not to hijack or start a debate, but I like SS for the fact that it doesn't rust as long as it's not welded together with mild steel. AL is super lightweight but corrosion is higher than SS.

Check with AeroTanks they do make some tanks in stainless steel and do make some custom tanks.
If their standard tank is not stainless maybe they will make one for you.

Their tanks are attached with tabs on the sides of the tank bolted to the frame.

Stainless can't be that much more $. The thought of it never rusting again, is very appealing. Never getting rust in the filter etc...

I own a brewery, so I love stainless, plus I own a boat, and having a tank that will outlast the fiberglass is pretty awesome.

I went with my stock 77 poly tank and stock poly aux tank. Which will give me 23 gallons or so total. Never rust, but plastic cracks and degrades.
