I'm looking to degrease a few parts & repaint them. I've tried a few things but nothing seems to work. What's the best degreaser you've used?

Laquer thinner works great. I put it in a spray gun and hose it and scuff the parts with a red Scotchbrite. I've also used oven cleaner.

Call a carpet cleaning supply outfit and ask for d-Limonene. It's made from orange peels and is wickedly awesome for cleaning grease.

You can also get D-Limonene at a Green Building supply store, I've also used Via-Solve, which is a bio-based degreaser if there is a treehugger in you. If not go with Laquer thinnger, wear gloves....

Cascade dishwasher detergent. 1 cup per gallon or water and boil it for about 10 minutes. I use a turkey deep frier that I picked up at a yard sale for $5. It's very similar to Oakite (strong base). The solution they use to boil engine blocks and heads, trannys, etc. I used it on my D20 and it came out spotless. I found it to be a great prep for powder coating and painting. Cast iron parts will flash rust pretty fast so you have to be ready to paint. One big advantage is the fumes and skin contact will not take out your liver, damage your nervous system, or cause dermatitis, like volatile solvents. (acetone, laquor thinner, MEK, Stoddard solvent, gasoline, keroseen, etc)

I have used Valucraft Engine Degreaser from Auto Zone here on the west coast and it's better than anything I have ever used. It was so good, in fact, that I was suprised you could even buy it in CA as strict as they are. I always knew that one day the state would catch on, so I always bought several cans when I needed to go there. Sure enough that day has come - not available here any more. Maybe they still have it in PA

Are you looking for spray on/hose off or dunk tank degreasers?

I got a 5-gallon bucket of http://www.solventreplacement.com/ at the Bronco Stampede here in AZ and forgot about it for a year. Then tried it. It does wonders. Randy down at Driven Auto Parts (great AZ yard for 4WD parts) is using this stuff to clean everything. But this is all dunk tank stuff. Drop part off in tank, pull out next day all nice and clean.

For spray one/hose off I find simple green or some orange based stuff works good for light coatings. Anything heavy I use tap water blasted out of a gas powered pressure washer. OK, I use that on just about anything that can take the blasting. Be careful around seals, it will shoot past nearly any type of common seal out there. Absolutly destroy a motorcycle O-ring sealed chain.

Proforce Degreaser from Sam's Club does a really good job. Even when diluted, it works great. I have used it without dilution to get tranny fluid and crude oil out of the back of my truck. Like it was never there on my LineX.

For a spray on and hose off solution, I love this stuff. Purple power is another one I like but the sam's club stuff is cheap and works well. I have found that it discolors some spray painted surfaces but it does a great job on grease.
