I just changed my oil(way over due). I had a Fram, just put on a purolator(spelling). Is there a difference? What is the best on the market? Does 7 quarts sound right for an 87 5.0? That thing must have been thirsty.

If I remember back in my days of owning a 5 liter I think it holds 6 quarts

Motorcraft filters have allways worked well for me, even in my close to 800HP race motor

Don't use fram= Junk

Purolators are better than frams

I always use motorcraft. I have had two incidents with Fram...stay away from Fram. One filter sucked the element inside together and instantly stopped the oil flow. Another Fram actually blew out! The bottom blew out! Luckliy it was in the driveway warming up, and I was standing nearbye! These happened on two different vehicles. Since then, nothing but Motorcraft.

I've been using the K&N high performance oil filter (which hasn't appeared in that site yet). Expensive I know, but $10 extra a few times a year is a small price to pay for reassurance that my new 408W is going to be well protected. However, I may switch to the Mobil 1 now that I know more about it. Great site. thanks!

I used nothing but fram in my bronco oil was changed every 3000 miles never had a problem in fact when I rebuilt the engine at 177,000 miles the inside was good the crank only needed to be polished so its still has std bearings since then I 've heard all the rants about which filter is better ya, ya, While I do use motorcraft now its more because that they are cheaper at walmart than any other filters. I have never seen any oil pressure diff between the 2 and my oil is just as dirty at 3000 miles. I wouldnt hesitate to use just about any filter if my preferance wasnt availible, of course if I had a problem with one brand I would probably bag on it also.

baldwin make the best in my opinion, almost evry big truck has them, you cant get them from local parts stores though.nothin from parts stores is any good, example the knn is just a fram with their name on it. caterpilar just let baldwin take over making all there filters for them because they are so good. i have a 94 gmc with 330,000mi on it,baldwin filter its whole life, burns no oil, and has nothing done to it more than maintinence and it has had 2 water pumps. buy them from here.

I use Motorcraf because my dad and granddad has always stressed using factory stuff. Ive used fram in the past when I couldnt get Motorcraft and never had a problem with either.

I use Castrol oil most of the time, but have used the Motorcraft oil.

I would also say that if I had problems from a certain brand Id stay clear of it also.

I think the biggest priority is making sure to CHANGE oil and filter every 3000.

My uncle had a dodge 318 and used fram and castrol straight 30 oil and got near 300,000 befor he decided to rebuild. Nothing had anywear on it at all except the cam bearings. The crank needed nothing the bore was great all remained std size. The only thing that was wrong was the cam bearings were shot and I would assume that this was due to the straight 30 wgt oil he used not getting to the top of the motor fast enuff during start up.
