More 66 Pics... These were after I won it when it crossed the block. Got it on the trailer and was able to bring it home the same day. I really gotta thank all my bronco buddies that talked me through the truck and helped me deal with the mental anguish of buying another bronco. haha. Also gotta thank my buddy Grayson for attending the auction with me and for being ready to tackle me if the bids went past 42K. Haha

I don`t understand that this Bronco sold 11 months ago on Bring a Trailer for $71,500 and it just sold at this auction for $120,000. What changed in the increase price in it ? They keep saying the market is slowing down on these early Bronco`s, I don`t guess so
I certainly haven't seen a slow down on the nice broncos. It seems to me that project broncos are getting a little cheaper and the projects that are still expensive just sit for sale a lot longer. I think people are catching on to how incredibly hard and expensive it is to bring back a rusty project.

I think the story of that bronco is what sold it at the auction and being that it was a 77 also helped Im sure. I think two guys just really wanted it and paid a little more to get it. Ultimately it probably should have been priced similar to the ranger and the explorer. Who knows tho, it could have just been the 6 "free" drinks they give the bidders.

Yea 66 bronco the hash marks on the speedo should be on the outside vs inside, and it be interesting to see what’s under those plate on the door maybe it had the roadster style mirrors on the door. it’s a beautiful truck! Congrats on the buy!
The area that has the screw plates is pretty small and wouldn't cover the roadster mirror footprint I don't think. I think we all know it was some sort of mirror installed there but Im not sure what kind. I will be putting a correct speedo back in it as soon as I can come across one. I also would like to get the correct bench seat cover.

When you get a chance it would be cool to see the casting dates on the block below the coil and the back of the intake runner and assembly date. Also by chance you going to be bringing it to super cel east would love to see it in person

I will take some photos of the castings later today and start a separate thread all together for the bronco so be on the lookout for that. Unfortunately I will not be able to get out to Townsend this year. It falls on one of the busiest weeks of the year for me this time. I will probably be out there Monday and Tuesday for a bit but not sure what I'll have with me.

You can just get a repo cluster from Tom's :)

@Lewko66u13 that plate by the mirror is covering up a crack I bet, nearly every 66' I've owned and nearly every survivor I've seen is cracked on the driver door in that spot.

I'm not sure if it's been posted here, but this halfcab is pictured in the John Elkin Book Ford Bronco Racing. Under stock vehicles.

Also - Does the halfcab still have the "Funco RaceCars" bumper sticker on the back?

Thats so funny! I literally just got that book last week and hadn't looked through it. Just had to check it out and see the photos.

The remnants of the sticker seem to be etched into the bumper but that all that left of the funk sticker.

Congrats on the purchase!
Only thing that truck needs is a $1k seat cover now… LOL
IIRC those plates are indeed covering ‘66 door cracks…
Such a cool rig.

Here are the Stroppes. The nicer more original one didn't sell with a high bid of 130K and the other with the explorer motor sold for 125K which I felt was a pretty good deal, however the new owner will have to find a lot of parts if they want it to be correct. Pretty bummed I didn't look at these closer and get more detailed pics. Im not a Stroppe guru so I didn't look as close as I probably should have. They both seemed like really nice broncos and done really well. I was told that these broncos were purchased by a collector to rob some parts for other restorations and then sold to the dealer that had them at auction.
I owned the 73 EFI Baja for a couple of years. I bought it from Andrew. When I bought it the original top was out of state somewhere. We had it shipped to the Bay Area and then had it restored and painted by the late Greg Testa. We installed a custom carpet that looked close to the original parchment mat. That carpet is still in the truck. It was one of the best running and driving Broncos I have owned.

What makes the '66 doors more apt to crack there? I don't think that's a problem with other years?

Todd Z.
I'm not sure, and correct I've not seen that happen on any other years personally. That would be a good one to ask Nick at NE Classic since he's parted out a zillion of them.

It really was a great Bronco. I have pics of greg working on it somewhere. He painted 3 or 4 Bajas for me and he was very good at fixing panels, not just replacing them like many "builders" or body men today. Nothing like original metal. I have to say I'm a little sad the wheels went away. I should post up how original it was when I first saw it. Incredible pics of it with the original tire cover on it, etc.

Todd Z.

68 drivers side shown below, passenger side is just starting to crack.

The door is very solid in front of the crack. The window sill flexes from the crack all the way back to near the handle, when pusing up & down on mirror. I suspect a notch or some other stress riser on inside of door skin at this point starts the crack.
