OK...forgive me, it's been a long time since I've been on the site, lol. I've got a drip-drip-drip from the accelerator pump and it *appears* that I can replace it. Maybe needs a complete overhaul, I don't know--I just want to see what I can do. I'm not immune to replacing the carb completely because I've done the overhaul before (the garage did it) and I'd be happy with an Edelbrock as I've had those on other vintage vehicles.

The question is what carb I have? It's a 1970 Bronco 302...if that helps anyone recognize it. Went to a couple parts stores and they have nothing. I'm happy if I can identify the parts and order, then wait. If it helps, one photo has "108" stamped on the side of the carb.

Should be period (or 70's) correct.

Been a long time. Joined a LONG time ago....in Arizona, I think, if this place was around (1996) and then in Houston (until around 2000) and in WA state (until 2007) and back to Texas. Headed to Albuquerque (anyone remember Bruce Rowen?? Maybe he's still around after all these years and I can look him up). Know plenty of guys here but by user name, only met a few in person.

Thanks--Dan

It's a '70 Autolite 2100 that's likely the OE carb for your Bronco. Don't ever exchange it as a core, a common and big mistake. The mass carb rebuilders rarely sell the correct rebuilt carb to replace it. If by Edelbrock you mean an AFB or AVS, you'll need a 4bbl intake. There's nothing to gain by doing that. The 2100 is calibrated for your engine in your Bronco. The AFBs marketed by Edelbrock are set up to run rich enough to "work" on any engine, and likely too rich for your engine. The 2100 is a far better carb off road and will give you better MPGs and equal or better HP. Rebuilding it is easy and will teach you how to set it up and maintain it.

Explains why a re-builder shop didn't want to put in a new one--thank you!

If a 2 BBL Autolite was the do-all answer, then I'd agree.
But fact is, Sure, it rules on the trail, but it can't possibly flow enough to run on the freeway.
This is where a four barrel shines. Small primaries, and great torque.
Now add the secondaries. More air and fuel when needed.
It looks like a good 4 barrel is the answer.

OK, lol, I read this second...I'll consider. I don't run trails much (Dana 30 and all), and had a 67 Mustang and 75 F250 with Edelbrock 4bbl and liked them a lot. Had a Holley in a 77 Bronco and hated it.

Not being one that likes to spend money on improvements you don't need I would just replace the leaking accelerator pump.4 screws and it will nearly fall off and you don't even need to take anything else loose.Used to you could just buy the pump its self but unless you can find a good parts house you may have to spend $20.00 and get the whole kit.Looks like you have an original autolite 2100 carb as the 1.08 on the side is the venturi size and is stock for most Broncos with a 302 engine. If you look under the empty bracket on the base it will probably have something like this stamped on it,9U A or similar numbers and letters. At wide open throttle the 302 engine you have will work just fine with the stock carb.I used to wind the speedometer all the way as far as it would go when my 70 model was fairly new.

Hi, if that was my carb I would do what I have done many times back in the day.
On those carbs, many times you would get a bad stumble and that was usually the accelerator pump diaphragm went bad. The diaphragm is under that little cover but you have to remove the top of the carb to fix it.
So I would get the complete rebuild kit, and if you see dirt, gunk, etc. in the bowl. just take the carb apart and clean it all with carb cleaner. The rebuild kit will have very good instructions and pictures.
If inside the bowl is all good, just rebuild the accelerator pump, and use the new gasket for the top. The accelerator pump can be fixed with the carb on the engine.
Good luck

I agree, no reason to change that carb if it runs good, just get the kit and replace that accelerator pump diaphragm, it's a 10 minute job.

Several million Ford vehicles prove that statement unequivocally false.

Can I retract my statement?

One of the strongest 302s I've seen had a 2100 carb on it.

The issue I ran into was when I switched to 4.11 gears. When I tried to pass and the C4 tranny went into passing gear, it ran out of air at around 3000 RPM, leaving you out hanging there. It hadn't done that with thee original 3.50 gears.

But yes, as long as the rest of the drivetrain is original, the 2 bbl will be fine.
