Alright, just need to check to see if there isn't anything else I need to order to make sure I have it all for my buddy to install. I plan to order my stuff from complete offroad. Here is my setup, throwing in full widths from a 78 and am changing gears to 5.13's and putting a spool in the rear (was real happy with the one in my stock rear) and a detroit in the front (would rather go cheaper but dont want to change it again later)

So Here is my gear setup with install kits

Here is my spool

and here is my detroit locker for the front

Do I have to order the carrier bearings separate?

What else do I need to order? Are all the bearings and bushings and thingamajiggers in the kits? I plan to do a double check on my axles before throwing them in to make sure they are still good and usable. I am somewhat on a budget with this so that is why I am not replacing the axles yet. I thought about upgrading the front axles and getting a lesser l.s. like a powerlock or a trak loc. Gimme your advice and criticism.

This is 90% trail, only on the streets to look cool and get groceries when I am feeling manly (I'll roll in my halfcab most of the time), running a 3 speed still, hopefully a np435 soon with a 205, 36 IROKS (actually 37") stock healthy 302 with 2brl. I am a newb when it comes to wheelin so I use the skinny more times than not to boogie down around and over obstacles.

The carrier bearings should be in the kits, as well as the seals and other bearings. You will need to get a solid preload spacer kit for the 9", because the isntall kits usually come with crush sleeves. Also, I would order an extra pinion nut for both front and rear (unless you are really good at setting up gears and can nail the preload and pattern down with very few iterations).

Install kits should come with all bearings, seals and shims needed for the install. The rear install kit will probably come with a crush sleeve, which is fine if your buddy knows what he's doing. He can re-use the old pinion nuts, particularly for the front, to do the setup; I never buy extras of those.

One thing not mentioned and doesn't come with install kits is setup bearings for the front axle. Your buddy may have those as they make the install much easier and quicker. If he doesn't, you can go to a cheap parts house and buy an extra set of carrier bearings and hone them out slightly to make a pair of setup bearings.

As for the pinion nut. I have bought install kits from both Yukon and Genuine Gear. (Complete OffRoad is mainly Yukon) The master install kits have always come with a new pinion nut. Whichever brand of install kit you decide to go with, just be sure to use Timken bearings.

The list looks fine I would also suggest the solid spacer kit for the rear it just makes things nice down the road. But I do see that you left the most important thing off your list and thats a case of cold ones cant do anything until you have those.

Haha, yeah I have a fridge full of those. I have a buddy that is going to help me do the full width conversion, will have my CAGE arms in 2 weeks (they changed the rear mount design and are waiting for stock), just need to get everything else ready.
When I put the 78-79 Bronco axles in, do I need to change the yoke? I figure the lengths should be close on the drive shafts, at least in the rear, wonder about the front though? Maybe if the shaft is the stock length it might fit perfect now and give me back that valuable spline.
RE: Timken Bearings, do these need to be bought separate from the kit or are they included in the typical Yukon kits?
I will get some solid spacers for the 9" and they have some setup bearings too I can get.

I have seen 3 install kits from Mike (all Yukon), and they have all had Timken bearings.

Perfect! What about the yoke size on the 78 Bronc's is it the 1330 instead of the 1310? And if so cant I just get some 1310's to put on the pinions?
