What are the specs for the lower joint?
Upper joint has a "pre load nut", does that have a spec?
What about the upper joint torque spec?
Once tightened, should the knuckle move freely?
Thanks
Ron

In another thread, DirtDonk says:

Torque lower nut to 70-90 ft lbs.
Torque adjusting sleeve to 40 ft lbs.
Torque upper nut to 100 ft lbs.
Test knuckle. Effort to turn should not exceed 26 lbs.

You need to use something like a fish scale to measure the knuckle turn effort. Hook it to the tie rod hole and pull in the direction of the tie rod.

Hi, on my dana 44 the drivers side was too hard to turn when the sleeve was tightened to 40 ft/lb. So I loosened the sleeve a little to free up the steering knuckle. The passenger side was fine. Try the book specs first, but don't be afraid to make adjustments if they are too tight. Good luck

Absolutely!
And one thing that we've been seeing a lot of in the last few years is the sleeve not being able to reach the 40lb mark. I've personally run into this twice now, where you could just keep spinning it until it literally dropped out the bottom of the threads!
It would easily reach 30lbs, but not 35, so I used spacing instead. If the sleeve protrudes more than 1/8" out of the bottom, but has reached 25lbs, I stop there and button it down.
So far the testing has show the final result to be fine, but I'm not sure what problems can be caused by this down the road. Nothing that I'm aware of, but I still get concerned about that kind of stuff. I hate inconsistencies in new parts!
