Here is some science and tests. The royal purple someone linked that's says "yellow metal safe" is actually highly corrosive.

MaxGear has been reformulated since the publication of that data which was in 07. The forum is 2012 which means by the time that was posted it was out of date. It is true that at one time Royal Purple had issues with soft metal corrosion but that has been dealt with a while back. That being said, keep in mind that the PDF used as justification is an Amsoil marketing brochure and not a scientific study. If you look at the data Amsoil always comes out on top and Royal Purple (their competitor in the performance lubrication market) on the bottom. That does not negate that there was at a time corrosion issues, but I would take that document with a grain of salt. The bias alone means that it cannot be a serious scientific study.
