Hey all,

I'm looking to get a good welder. I'l like to get a 220v, but I'm still kind of transient in my life and never know if I'll have 220v were I will need it. I figure a little 110 unit will probably get the things done that I need. I'm not a crawler/wheeler, so the things I will need to weld shouldn't be that thick.

What are your thoughts on the Miller or Linclon 140s?

Thanks,
Fred

I have the 180c which does very well I wouldn't want anything smaller but if you arn't plannig on welding any heavy steel, anything over 3/8"s, you should be okay, do get the C seris because you can fine tune the heat range which sounds if though you have allready cheked into this. I do like the millers better but the price is the reason I purchased the lincoln and also the spool gun for the lincoln is quiet a bit cheaper. I don't know that the millers are better, I have had good service out of the lincoln, just my prefrence.

I have a freind who is downgrading his miller 175 to a 135 due to voltage availability. I grew up with a lincoln weldpac SP100. a good 110V machine can do great for the little projects. My Uncle has the Home Depot 110V Lincoln and it does good for small stuff. It can handle some big stuff but you don't want to do a lot of big stuff with it.

Other then cost, I would really like to get the miller pasport. Inverter based MIG with a sweet arc to it. Runs 110V but if you have 220V you can get more out of it. 2 Welders in one. And it travels well inside it's Pelican case.

Just don't get a cheap 110V machine. I have tried a few. Basicly torture to use.

I used a Lincoln 135 for a little while, until i upgraded to a Lincoln 175hd. But the L140 should do you fine, just make sure you clean the metal and bevel the edges for a good penetration.;)

I've used a 115v machine on a lot of vehicle projects and it should work fine for you, there's nothing real heavy (gauge wise) on the bronco, and it is easy to use and carry about anywhere. Even though I have other machines, I've never gotten rid of my little 135. As far as Lincoln or Miller goes, I own both. What color do you like?

I've got one that I am using to replace sheetmetal. I've also welded some tubing and angle iron up to 1/4 inch. It works really well and the "C" model's adjustments make it easy to dial in right. Get the cart with it for a light, potable, very capable machine.

It's a replacement for a 13 year old Century machine and it welds circles around the Century machine.

I have the Lincoln 135. Its been a very good one. Make sure you get gas with it. I really like welding with gas.

Good experiences here too. I've got a miller 135 and Lincoln 255. I use the Miller about 99% of the time. It's a very good machine, and portable. I second the above recommendation on the gas. It makes for very nice welds.

I have a Lincoln 135 and i love it. i have the gas and i love the 110v because i can weld really anywhere. unlike my stick i have to drag around the 25ft HEAVY cord. the lincoln does everything i want it to do.
