Okay, I realize that this subject has surely been covered to the point where everyone is super bored with it. BUT, I have searched and that is how I've learned what I think I've learned. BUT, every time I think I've got the answer, I see a video or a post that leaves me second guessing. Here goes:
Stats: 302, Edlebrock high rise, four barrel, performance heads, .060 pistons, Crane cam, Hedman headers.
Goal: the quietist exhaust system ever made in the world bar none, Prius level, hitting pedestrians, never heard it coming, silence.
Okay, that's not possible, I get that. Every time a tread starts off like that it ends up with something like, well, it has a nice tone. No! No tone!
Question: Has anyone had a system where they were like, this is just too quiet and I just can't stand how quite it is?
Guess: Is the quietest I can do a 2:1, huge Walker Quiet Flow, glass pack resonator?
Thanks everyone for putting up with another exhaust question. Just making sure this is all I can get. Hoping for some magic solution.

I'd check out that system the Volt's use. They almost don't even make a noise.

Don't get Super 44's. They are not that quiet. ;D

I'd look for the largest muffler you can fit. Never did any research on this but it seems like the larger they are the quieter they are. I'm sure some are more quiet than others even sized the same.

My father-in-law has a 302 kinda like yours with long tube headers and it's quiet--at least to me. But he says he can't tell if it's running when I pull up beside him. Sounds like a draw back to me. ;)

I saw a guy with a turbo charged first gen lightning.

He wanted an absolutely quiet exhaust sleeper system that flowed like hell.

After some research he found the big round mufflers from school buses would flow like hell but be real quiet. He found one that wasn't too big (lots of choices) but it still had 4" inlet and outlet.
It was Uber quiet. Made it into Street Trucks mag back in the early 2000's.

Besides the factory exhaust system, I've not seen a single exhaust that's quiet enough for me.
You may get it quiet at idle, but it's the highway drone that kills it.

maybe I can get that Volt gas mileage too. Bigger seems better here for sure, Is the 2:1 the way to go for this, you guys think? I'm not sure if I can fit 4" over the axle! But I'd probably try if it meant putting the hush on.

He adapted down to 3" or so from that 4" inlet/outlet school bus muffler.

As was said big muffler will do the best. should be able to find some similar to stock but larger that will fit. Of course you may just wan to find someone removing a muffler off a new truck they are pretty quiet and may be dirt cheap.

Good Idea, I might take some cues off my Dad's F250. I love wheeling in that thing because when you hit a hole, all you can hear is the mud spraying. In my truck, you can't get out of the driveway without a headache.

I hear ya! I used to run cherry bombs on my fenderwell headers that exit in front of the tire on my 73 but getting older now I run something a bit quieter. But I still like the noise. My 71 pretty much has the stock exhaust with no tail pipe yet and is nice a quiet I still need to route the tail pipe out which should make tone it down some more.

resonators are generally made to produce a certain sound ie throaty ect.. If you can find ones that are made to reduce sound then you would be good.

take it to a reputable exhaust shop. tell them you want it like factory with the big round truck muffler. 2" or 2 1/4" . about as quiet as you can get. tell them you want them to custom build the y-pipe not put on some chinese bull****. aluminized pipe also. should cost no more than $450 cash.

I wonder if you could go with a big Walker Quietflow and then terminate it in a Supertrapp or something similar that's tunable. I doubt you could fit something much bigger than the Walker between the frame rails on one side. Just spitballin' here.

A big muffler will not fit..

I took mine to an exhaust shop and told them to 2 into 1 where to route it and make it quiet.

they did that, I have no idea what muffler they used but they got most of it correct.

It is quiet... muffler is not that big, could be a glass pack for all I know, but its quiet.
nothing with a fancy name or stainless, just a muffler from a muffler shop. with 2.25 inch pipe

If it too loud your are too old... my ass is gettin old.

I have had dual flow master, single flow master 2:1 like BC broncos... i have a fortune spent in exhaust & mufflers all were loud.

Yeah, that's why I thought I'd take a stab at this thread because all the post I was finding would say at the top, boy this new exhaust I got is so quiet, then somewhere along the line they would have a video of a truck that was just as loud as my truck was with glass packs. I've alway had true dual on there so I just wasn't too familiar with the 2:1 set ups. I heard they came provide more torque and I like the idea of one tail pipe. Am I going to have to go to a 2.5" pipe for this set up?

You've got an engine with Stats: 302, Edlebrock high rise, four barrel, performance heads, .060 pistons, Crane cam, Hedman headers, and you're wondering if you're going to have to go to a 2.5" pipe? When you built the engine it sounds like you wanted it to breath.
I'd say the original 2" size pipe would be fine from the header to the "Y", but I'd use a 2.5" muffler and tailpipe.

It may require a little testing etc. but I would grab BroncoHut's complete system, headers back and when you order, call in and request a quiet muffler. I run Turbo mufflers on my builds as the stock muffler they send is too loud for my likings and it gives me easy swap out should they want quieter or louder etc. There is enough room in their system to slip in a resonator up stream of the muffler if need be, it will have to be cut in but it may take a combination of two to get it super quiet. Good luck and keep us posted with your results.

Yeah man, I want it all! No, I used to be a hard ass and now I'm old, but I still have the same truck.
