EFI fuel lines and pump

I have been reading a lot of threads on fuel system setups. I wanted to see if I am missing anything on a simple arrangement?
Stock tank to regular fuel filter to Bosch 69100 pump to EFI filter to engine using Hyperflex fuel line. Clamps before the pump and AN fittings after? Are AN needed for the exit of the pump and EFI filter or just at the engine? Return line teed into filler vent.

Edit to add: 1986 5.0 factory efi

IMO you need AN fittings from exit of the high pressure pump and at all connections there after to and including the fuel rail due to the high pressure.

I used an AN on the return at the fuel rail and again at the return connecting to the hard line for the return which ran along the frame rail. I used rubber line at the end of the return line with a simple clamp and a brass PEX "T" with clamps at the filler vent I tapped into.

Not saying that's the only way of doing it but it worked great for me.

I have a 23 gal. but my setup is similar and it's been in place for 23 years and about 135,000 miles now without any problems. I don't have any AN fittings in my system. The entry and exit from the pump are the Ford plastic duckbill fittings with EFI hose clamped to them. The transition at the feed and return lines on the engine (stock Mustang lines) are EFI rubber hose clamped to stock Ford barbed fittings. Return line goes directly to the tank.

That was one of my reasons for asking. The Bosch pump comes with the Ford barb. Any opinions on having an accumulator?

I'm using a holley hydramat in the tank rather than accumulator.

I have run a similar setup to what you're planning to use for about 10 years with no accumulator and no issues. I rock crawl so I have had it tipped pretty far in all different directions and never starved for fuel.

I'm looking at running the FiTech EFI with my stock rear tank and external pump to throttle body and return back to tank. Is there any issue with aspiration running return back to vent line? Other threads have mentioned this is bad and you need to run return to dip tube into the bottom of the tank??
Running to existing vent line would be way easier!

(4) FU2Z-9J274-A straight 5/15" x 5/16" Duck bill connector, (1) N806197S190 90* 3/8" x 5/16" 90* Duck bill connector

(Ford part numbers) Can also purchase the Duck bill connectors from Lawson, I am sure there are other suppliers

There are many ways to run lines... Here is a few pictures from my 67 with a 96 explorer ^^^

External pump needs a prefilter, sock on the end of a standard pick up (non-EFI) is not sufficient. Post filter needs to be around 10 microns for the Injectors...

I followed Timmy390 picture for a Mustang EFI conversion I did on a 77 Bronco.
Bracket for the external fuel pump is from a 2002 Superduty 7.3 Truck.
EFI fuel filter bracket is from a Foxbody Mustang 87-93 any size motor. Used a Mustang 5.0 fuel filter (post) and an Explorer 5.0 fuel filter for the 96 internal pump.

I’m running efi rated rubber fuel line wherever needed to connect to hard lines. No AN fittings, just efi style hose clamps. Been good for the first thousand miles so far.

I ran the same Ford plastic duckbill fittings as Todd. I did use a clear plastic pre-filter in front of the high pressure pump as a sight gauge and a factory style high pressure metal filter after the pump. I also added a Light gauge steel plate just a little lower then the gas tank fuel outlets. I mounted the high pressure fuel pump to this plate using a factory metal pump holder from a Ford F series truck. I never had a fuel starvation issue or vapor lock issue.

Good luck

I run my a little different but I do run back to the vent line. Mine is running great.

I go from stock tank to mechanical pump to FCC2 to throttle body. The return line runs out of the FCC2.

My 68 has a low pressure pump mounted on the frame at the tank feeding a high pressure pump mounted under the hood. That way I had a short line of high pressure. I just put two clamps on each barbed fitting. It's only about 50 psi or so.

The only issue I have is that the high pressure pump doesn't stay primed when I shut off the engine and let it sit for 15 minutes or so hot. I'm not sure if I have injector leakdown, or back pressure pushing back to the tank. Just turn the key on and off a couple times and good to go. Been that way for a couple years now.

I'm reconfiguring it this spring to use just the high pressure pump. I'm switching to AN fittings, mostly just for the look, clean up some angles, ability to mount fittings to the steel 3/8" line that I have, and to add a fuel pressure gauge.

I'm also rebuilding my '72 using AN for the reasons above (looks, mount to hard lines, nice looking black braided hoses...)

When I'm done, both will have a Fram G15 as a pre pump filter, and a Fram G3802A as a post pump filter. Stock Ford frame mounted pump. The G15 just has clamps to rubber line. For the post filter and fuel pump I bought 3/8" barb to 5/16" bundy female connectors on Amazon. I used some stainless Oetiker style clamps on those with -6 AN hose. The 3/8" steel line has compression fittings to adapt to AN.

I’m not an engine guy so I have a dumb question. Can you run the return line out of the FiTech TBI right back into the inlet? I bought a FiTech from a friend that had good luck with it. I’ve spent two weeks now researching the best install for my 69’ 302 with Edelbrock intake and poly main and aux fuel tanks. My head hurts. Sooo many options and different installs. Ugh...

No, if you do that, it will put high pressure on the return line, and it wont be able to regulate pressure to the injectors.
