Emergency brake cable question

So I have two questions.

1. I think I installed my e brake cables backwards. Only one end flares out and one end comes with a clip. Does it matter which end goes on the drum which to the bracket? I currently put the clip end in the drum and at the pedal

2. Once I hooked up everything it seems I have to much cable. ( I have the stock size 3 pack from Bronco graveyard) in the neutral pedal position it seems my lever can almost touch the equalizer bracket with the two rear cables. There's not even enough thread on my retainer bolt to tighten? Did I do something wrong or can I trim the cable?

The clips and flares serve the same purpose. But there should be a spring on the flared end that helps to release the brake. So the flared out end should go into the drum.

Do your cables have springs?

So if you install them one way, the springs return the cable.
If you install them backwards, the springs would push on the cable, except there's nothing for the spring to push on.

I'm a little confused now. are you saying that you already put them in backwards? So you need to turn them around. It won't make them shorter, and your adjustment problem will persist...but they need to have the springs in the right way to prevent dragging.

Two separate issues. But yes first one I installed them backwards so I'll be switching them tonight. Second issue my cables are to long and I think I solved that issue too. My rear cables bracket was welded on backwards so the cable conduit ends are like 3 inches closer to the lever then they should be. I think to fix that I'll just buy universal cable stops and just shorten them by the same distance.
Nothing is ever easy on these restoration projects

Make sure that the cable sheath will still be long enough for the suspension to travel down. I'd get it mounted correctly.
