Engine Oil cooler / trans oil cooler question

I just did a 700r4 install. I plan to add a Derale 13900 (or similar if someone has a better suggestion) under driver seat as i have no aux tank and stay out of the radiator all together for the trans.

Can i use the transmission portion in the radiator for engine oil? Would that help or hurt.

I have a 351w and mechanical fan on new water pump freshly rotted radiater and used to be a c4 and it ran too hot for my comfort level. I dont want to burn up new trans so was going to put stand alone cooler and try to get that heat out of the radiator and figured engine oil cooling in that area couldnt hurt.

Feedback please...

put a cooler in front of the radiator. under the seat does not get airflow ,even with a fan.

The engine's oil pressure is too much for the cooler in the radiator. Also, don't eliminate the tansmission cooler in the radiator. It would take a really big air cooler to equal the capacity of that little cooler in the radiator. You can always add an additional aux cooler. Just make sure the transmission fluid goes first through the radiator then through the aux cooler. It is more efficient that way.

I think folks sometimes forget that radiator cooler line is also a tranny heater in reverse when the tranny is cold.

The old trans cooler (in radiator) will NOT work for engine oil. Ports are too small, restrict flow, starve engine for oil, engine die, bad stuff. Works for power steering.

Years ago (and a different project) I did a custom Ron Davis radiator. They did offer an in radiator engine oil cooler. I used it as a monster in radiator trans cooler. It was so large that they required the side tank to be enlarged to properly fit it.
