Engine still not running right....

I am new to the Bronco world and I haven't done much engine work on vehicles beyond the basics and I am lost. I have a '68 with the stock 170 I6 and it wasn't idling well when I bought it. I replaced the carb and fuel filter hoping it would fix my problem. It is now idling a little better, it still revs up and then dies off to the point that it almost dies (sometimes it does die) constantly. I attempted to adjust the idle screw, but no dice. Now the engine whistles also. Any help will be appreciated. ?:?

I would consider a tune up with new plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor button, points and air filter. Also make sure the timing is set correctly and the plug wires are in the right order. This is assuming this hasn't been done in a while. Either way I would check the timing.

Check for a vacuum leak maybe one of the hoses is cracked or a vacuum cap is cracked or missing. also replace your points as suggested and reset the timing.

I agree with broncaz. Check for a vacuum leak. The whistling is probably from a leak.

If it is not a vac. leak then definately check the timing like daddyg said. If that is off a few degrees it can make life a nightmare. I thought I had carb problems and it turned out being timing.
