I also hear something which seems to be from transmission when I push the gas peddle. It is not knocking just a whining sound that get louder as I rev. Completely gone when in idle or when I take foot off gas. I crawled under had the wife rev it and it seems to be coming from trans. I have an 302 with AOD

Stock timing setting is 6 degrees before top dead center. it will usually run just fine there but you leave some free gains on the table.at the stock setting. Usually you can run 10-12 degrees with no issues. Every engine is different you have to play with it a little to find out what works best.
Last tune up could have changed it and now that its hot its having issues. Or the dizzy is a little loose and the timing changed.

A vacuum gauge is a really good way to set ignition timing on an old engine since it automatically compensates for engine wear & every other factor. Follow the link in the caption of that compression test chart I posted earlier.

The AOD is very sensitive to the TV cable adjustment.
