Well my 302 is dead today. Threw a rod!!! Damn! anyways I knew it was coming just wasnt ready to do it just yet.

Anyways i'm sure this has come up many times on here but... I'm think of doing a 351W. Ive rebuilt them before in my '88 150. I like them they are strong good motors.

My question is what years engine? What parts do i need? I know what can be swapped from a 302 to a 351 but i dont know if i need a certin water pump, ps, engine mounts,.... things like that. Any info would be great. I'm currently looking for a donor truck, but i'm in no rush. Thanks again.

The 351w is just about a bolt-in swap for a 302 or 289. Engine mounts are the same, bellhousing mount is the same, accessories can be adapted (or there are endless junkyard donors with serpentine accessories), exhaust manifolds/headers are basically the same, and the list goes on. You will likely have to reroute the exhaust a little becase the 351 is a little wider but not much. Deck height is only a little taller...

As for donors - the Ford Racing 351 (M-6007-S58) is a great deal for a brand new motor. They can be had for ~$2500 shipped to you door and include everything but the carb and exhaust manifolds.

Any 351W is fine some people look for the 67/70 block/heads but the only differance is the heads have slightly larger valves later engines used smaller valves. The 80-90's 4x4 trucks might be your best bet as I believe they will already have a dual sump oil pan. As was said most of the 302 stuff swaps over the only things that dont is intake, dist, and oilpan. accessories are probably the biggest issue either get adapters and use all the 302 stuff or use the donor engines accessories.

As long as your 302 is pre 1982 the flywheel is correct for a 351W the only flywheels that are not are 5.0 flywheels basically 82 up engines.

I echo TN1776. I did just that with the serpentine set up off a 1996 bronco and I love it. Great motor. I got mine from Summit delivered to our shop. It was painless.
