whats the difference between the seasoned 302s and the new block version? if you are doing a crate engine wouldn't you want the new block version?
Theoretically yes. Time will tell how good these castings are but I bought one to try it.

In the purest sense of the word, it’s not even an actual “crate engine“ unless it’s all brand new parts completely.
But they’re still calling them that even though “seasoned” means they are a used block that’s been re-machined to proper specifications.
Might otherwise be all new parts inside and out, but if it’s a used block, it’s a used block.

That’s not to say there aren’t certain advantages to being used. They use the word seasoned for a reason.
It’s been heated and cooled and stretched and stressed distressed for many years.
And that can actually be a good thing stability wise, I think.
But with the new they can control a lot of things, perhaps better than the factory did originally.

The new block has a few more freeze plugs than the used/seasoned blocks, as I recall. It has 4 bolt mains on 3? of the main bearings. And there's more 'beef' in certain areas which allows greater overbores than stock blocks, i.e. I think they can be built to at least 363 c.i. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing they followed the similar path of the Dart blocks, FRPP Boss blocks, etc. in terms of robustness.

Seasoned = Junkyard cores rebuilt
New block = There own casting, of which there are probably less than 1,000 built so far and I doubt any has 100,000 miles on them yet. So they are a mystery to long term use. but they are new and have a lot of upgrades done to them. Clutch pivot boss that doesn't exist on later blocks for example, on top of the other mentioned upgrades (4-bolt mains). And rumor that they may accept a 4.125" bore (not currently that I know of).

I would be willing to pick the new block as it sounds like it has a lot of beefy upgrades in it.

I bought the bronco setup with the 4R70 and wasn’t impressed. The serpentine setup was misaligned and kept chewing up the belts. I had to correct this on my own. 4R70 was leaking and PS pump was bad. This was a complete crate setup. Wouldn’t consider them on future builds

I looked on Summit and all the bare blocks are listed as shipping Aug of 2023 or as far out as Jan 2024

Tim
... and I've been monitoring a product on Summit for 8 mo and they have moved the shipping date at least 4 times since last October... they moved it again till August. So yup, they hope but have "no idea". lol

I ordered a 408 stroker with a holley sniper in April 2022 direct from blueprint. They told me it should be built December 2022. Every month or so I would call and it was just delay after delay. They first told me they couldn't get the sniper, and now the mahle pistons. I've been very patient but I'm starting to lose hope. There is a guy on youtube that ordered the same setup around the same time as me and got the engine 8 months ago. I tore down my bronco a year ago not knowing it would be this long. Only reason I've held out so long is the price and warranty, plus I have a solid amount of parts. Hopefully I can at least get some good news soon if not I might have to do something else.

And, of course, as soon as you do that something else, they’ll ship the engine!

I did the same thing last February and ordered a 306 from BP. A month later I happened to see the same engine, for the same price at summit. It was their last one, according to the site, so I had them validate it was in stock and I placed the order. It showed up in 4 days. I canceled my order with BP and got my money back. Unfortunately I am just now getting it running due to some conflicting information on flex plates and torque converters from BP as well as other vendors. Judging by this thread, looks like I made the right choice. If you see what you wanted from Summit, I would definitely get it.

The world is much different today than 3 yrs & 4 months ago.

Everybody has delay after delay stories. I'm not sure how a company keeps return customers other than the fact that once stock from the competitor is gone eveyone is in the same boat- no stock anywhere! :(

Glad Summit came through and you'll be up & running soon.

I'll be interested to see how his works out and if the original poster gets an engine. Does anyone know (assuming BluePrint fixes its issues) if they provide substitutions or credit for items you don't want?

For example - I might like a fully dressed front end without AC and I might like a completed engine, dressed, distributor etc but without the intake.

No way I’d let the deposit stay longer than whatever the credit card company will do a chargeback .

The longer someone has your money the less likely you are to get it back or ever get the parts .

Many years ago I bought a used engine from a place , they advertised dyno tested etc

The front accessory on the engine was damaged , and the damage was rusted ,
No way was this engine every on a dyno ,
I got the runaround when I called , They kept saying they’d send a new ps pump and water pump etc and never did .
So I called my CC company and did a charge back and wow , suddenly an hour later the place I got the engine from called and was angry , I reminded them we had discussed this repeatedly with no movement , and they overnighted the parts to me and had them on my front porch the next morning to get the cc money released .
