i believe at some point ford was making all blocks roller, but certain engines got flat tappet cams (trucks, crown vics, etc?). Roller blocks will come with the hole tapped in the valley for the roller lifter spiders. Can someone confirm?

Add one more broken bolt to the tally sheet Johnny. This one looks the best, or um, worst. Not sure how I will get this one out, the others had plenty of meat to weld a nut onto, this one not so much.

I had the same bolts broken off in both my heads. I had the machine shop extract them when they were doing the block. $25 per bolt removed.

Looks like that’s what it’s gonna be, I think I am 3 for 3 as far as broken bolts go; all the usual ones. Glad I’m not an odd ball. Shooting for the heads off tonight.

On that buildup in the "port" there on the end, double check it's not just a buildup on the surface of the casting.
Don't some of the heads have just an indent there? I think it's odd looking because the gasket is the same left or right, but that the cylinder heads don't all have a matching coolant port where the hole in the gasket and intake manifold meet.

Well, at least that's a hoped-for result anyway. If that's indeed a port then ya gots some diggin' ta do.
Maybe it'll all dissolve in the hot tank or bath.

Good luck.

Sounds like you are doing exactly what I'm planning. I'm in the process of finding a '96 or '97 donor for my '68 project. Tub is at the shop waiting to get media blasted while I'm working on the chassis.

Well, this was more of a question thread, however it has now given me the desire to finally start a build thread, almost a year after beginning to acquire the bronco. Yesterday I took off the intake and discovered the glue in the back of the passenger side water port, today I decided to take a look deeper and, it appears is very thin like maybe a quarter-inch. Today I took off the valve covers, rocker arms and pushrods, and heads. Not much is getting done each day, I am just trying to do something each day and maybe more on others as I have more time to myself; that is few and far between with a wife and two small boys. Anyways, I thought I’d post up today to show my progress, So here are today’s pictures

There isn’t a good shot of the bronco in the picture, but it is in the background on the right. I got the body from a member here, Bonefizz.
Here in one last pic showing the cylinder wall. I was amazed at the carbon buildup, or the lack there of. This car wasn’t treated the best by the signs I see, however, the engine was firing extremely clean from the looks of it. Or perhaps all the junk I have taken apart in the past was really bad compared to this...:p

That’s a nice buck. Hope to see one this year. Good luck with your explorer swap. I went straight to the efi. So glad I did. EfiGuy was a great help.

Which engine was this one? The Explorer or F150?

Did u mean truck? Or buck? I did show a nice buck at work, and if in fact you were referencing, I have some more hunting porn for you...I always enjoyed when others talked about things in the background of their pics.

The engine I am messing with is the explorer 5.0, I haven’t gotten my hands on the f150 yet, but was going to pull it and see what it looks like...maybe one will be better than the other, and maybe sell off the one not used. I would love to have a 351 or 408, but I know funds will scatter quick, so was going to pick the best 5.0 short block I can get and save a 351 or 408 swap for later on. I know me and I know this bronco will never move if I do everything I want to it and the same time. I was rambling on, but it’s the explorer engine in the pics...;D

Is that a K5 or K10? Man, I wanted an egg-crate grill K5 for my first vehicle but we couldn’t find one near us. It’s what put me on the Bronco path at 14.

It’s a K10. I had bronco all my life until that point, then practically finished that pickup (projects are never finished, are they? Or is that just me?), bought a house, got married and had my first boy all in a busy 18 mos, and sold my last bronco. Just recently got back into them and was quite surprised how much they were going for.
Here’s a few pics of old blue...

Almost a year later, and I have finally got the other 5.0 from my brother in laws 93 f150.
Life has been happening lately. My wife opened a new tanning salon on March 15, then you know what happened on a few days later. So many bills, no revenue, etc, etc, and we aren’t the only ones. Leading up to that point, around the time of this threads beginning, I have been building the new business. Working 8 hours plus commute, then working 8 or 10 more at night doing demo, building partitions, Drywall, texture, doors, floor, trim, paint, electrical, front desk, oh yes, plumbing too. I never mentioned that I know little to nothing about any of these things, that’s why it took so long to finish I suppose. So, I am having a little time to work on the bronco now. Well, my wife calls me the maintenance man at her salon, so there are many stops there on the way home from work; she’s been open since late May.
So where I left off is I was taking the explorer engine down to the short block. It is still sitting there between the 72 k10 and the Bronco just as it was. My BIL is doing some recycling and gave the gentle nudge I needed to take the engine out. We took it out today from pan to upper intake and I believe I got all the wires and such, even though I want to run the explorer EDIS. Thought I would give an update with pics to come soon.
