It ran fine yesterday. I must have dorked it up today when i removed it to inspect my oil pump drive shaft. It is bent now because of the debris; secondary damage. Gotta be more gentle.

Swapping to returnees fuel supply?

I'm running a 98 explorer setup in my 54 Vicky and my fuel tank seems to vent gas fumes for a while after driving the car. I'm wondering if swapping to a returnees system to get rid of the fumes is doable or am I overthinking the problem. Should I be using some kind of filter on the gas tank, I wonder? I could use some advise on the best way to solve what is a problem to me. Thanks

I don't suppose your tank is vented into a closed EVAP system at this point, is it?

If so, not sure where to start other than leaks in the hoses. If it's not EVAP equipped, you might consider going to the trouble. Not as easy on super sanitary hot rods of course, for lack of usable real-estate (kind of like Broncos!) but might be doable. And certainly worth the effort if it's not already so equipped.

Good luck. I'm sure the others will have more suggestions, but that's where I'd start the conversation.

Oh, and even though it's completely un-Bronco related... Got pics?
We like pics of just about any fun ride around here. The more Bronco the better of course, but lots of non-Bronco cool stuff running around too.

Here is the first run of my engine

Here is a video of the start up of my engine. This is a 98 explorer crate engine
with all junk yard EFI. I've not had to touch a thing on the engine once it was started. I huge thanks go EFI Guy, he was the only one who would help with
this installhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeZqFr8eXVI

Nice Job Ralph!

As Dirt Donk said, the best way to get rid of fuel vapors would be to add a charcoal canister. I'm not sure how easy it would be with your current fuel tank and available real estate. But, if you want to try it give me a ring, I have a couple of ideas for you.

Man hereI have been patting myself on the back and my engine just up and quits. So I think I must be out of gas so I put 5 gallons in the car and it still won't start. I wake up and listen for the fuel pump and realize it's not running. My pump is in the tank. So I order a new pump and in the meantime pull the gas tank. Pump shows up and I install it. Motor still won't start. I literally tear the engine apart trying to find the problem on top of calling Garry and bugging him. This guy puts up with everything. I worked on this problem of no fuel pressure for more then two weeks. Finally I'm hanging with my head inside the car trying to get it to start and realize the fuel pump sounds like an outboard motor. I think did I do something wrong when I replaced the pump. So down with the gas tank again and staring at the pump and can see nothing wrong. I just happen to touch one of the clamps on the tube connecting the pump and it moves. I can't believe I forgot to tighten the clamps connecting the pump to the fuel outlet, what a dummy, how I ever got this together the first time is a miracle. God love a patient wife, she has listened to me carry on for the last two weeks.

I am doing a 4.0 swap out of an explorer. I have the swap done and running. I didn't use the evap system and egt. The engine isn't running right and I am getting 3 codes all related to the evap system . Can you reprogram the computer and fix this problem ?

I can do some v6 stuff, but I don't have software for most of it. Let me know the PCM code and I'll see if I can help you out.

Ralph, glad to hear you got it figured out!

4.0 V6 stuff interests me as well... Thought about a smaller scale project possibly.

Maybe a stupid question but when removing the extra wiring from a harness are you just cutting the unwanted wires close to the connector or removing the pin completely? If you are removing the pin completely how are you sealing the open pin location that is left behind so water and other debris won't enter?

Garry covers that in one of the later videos. He suggest using rubber spline , the type used to hold screen fabric in place.

I used some sealing plugs that are intended for Deutsch DTM connectors.

I think those are exactly what I'm looking for. Found them in different sizes also, for the wire gage I'm assuming. Did you use different size ones or all the same?

I used the size 20 but only removed small wires from the connector. If you pulled some bigger wires, you'd want to use the next size larger sealing plug.

It's been quite a while since I've updated you guys, I haven't been on much at all. I've just been taking care of odd ball projects I've had and have been spending time with my wife. She's even managed to get this old fat guy to go to the gym with her on a semi regular basis.

So, first some good news... All of the wife's tumors (yes, they've found more) are benign! That doesn't mean that we are out of the woods, she still has really high white blood cell counts and some other issues with her blood work that they can't seem to figure out a cause for. They keep tossing around bone marrow biopsy as a possible next step. But, we'll take any good news we can get at this point. This whole thing has been so stressful on both of us that we came very close to splitting up. Fortunately we didn't and things are now going better than ever. I just want to thank you all for the prayers and positive vibes, they seem to be working so far!

So, I think I'm about a month out from taking in harnesses again. The current project I'm working on is shoehorning what may be the worlds biggest ESD workbench in to the worlds smallest home office. As if that wasn't a big enough challenge, I'm also adding linear actuators to it in an effort to save my back while working on harnesses. At least I won't freeze or sweat in the garage and no more being hunched over the dining room table when the weather is bad.

Once I'm done with that, I'm going to do 2 harnesses for my own personal projects and then I'll start taking harness orders. I know there are a few people in line already so new harness orders aren't likely to start shipping until April or so.

In an effort to maximize my free time (wife time) I'm going to do a few things a little differently. One of which will be asking you guys to strip all of the tape off from your harness before shipping it. It's time consuming and tedious but it's easy and I'd rather focus on the technical stuff. I'm also going to try and minimize my junkyard time so I'm going to ask that you provide any connectors that you want replaced. Most can be found in other cars, just clip em and ship em, I'll replace them.

Also, I'll probably offer 3 different harness options. One would be where I just do the firewall harness and send you the materials to do the engine harness. Again I'd do the technical stuff and let you do the easy side by following the videos. Another would be where I'd do both harnesses and let you wrap it. The the final would be the complete re-work and re-wrap. I'll figure out pricing when I get closer to taking in orders again.

Thanks again to all of you!
