This is the ford van mount. As others said before it sticks out into the engine bay a little over an inch which helps if you need that room inside. This came out of a large van. located in the firewall above the gas pedal. It's easy to remove if the engine is gone.

Ok - dumb question - are all the ports on the upper intake manifold for the explorer vacuum ports? Some of mine had some corrosion on them that made me think that perhaps some coolant was running through them, but then again it couldve been moisture from the air.

Some versions did have a couple coolant lines going to a couple nipples on the bottom of the upper. Not sure what the purpose was but it may have been some kind of temp controlled vacuum port.

mine is from a '99. i took a bunch of pictures during disassembly, but i didn't take enough of the lower side of the intake to know which ones to cap. anything really need vacuum other than the brake booster? running NV3550 and electric wipers. the charcoal canister will feed in before the throttle body.

Got mine running last night. had a few mistakes in the fuse block I wired up, got that fixed then no spark. Had to run an additional wire to the solenoid cranking wire to the ignition switch. Then it started. Test drives today after a few more clean up items.

There are two 1/4 ports that coolant run through (blue lines)... I read here, somewhere, that they were for de-icing of the upper intake. So for cold weather climates I would say use them.

I'd remove anything you aren't using as the rubber caps deteriorate fast and cause vac leaks. Everything is press fit but can be a nuisance to remove so take you time to remove them.

I tapped and plugged the empty ports using air injected into the manifold to positive pressure to make sure metal shavings didn't fall in while drilling and taping.

Pretty sure mine is returnless, the fpr is/will be in the tank - there is a pressure damper on the fuel rail that I think runs on vacuum. good call!

So pretty much just brake booster and the fuel pressure damper.

Thanks for the picture, those are the lines that look more corroded than the others...shouldn't be any trouble to hook them up.

I recently bought a complete running and driving '97 Mercury Mountaineer and I am planning on swapping the motor and transmission into my '01 Jeep Cherokee. I am not that electrically inclined, but I would like to try and learn how to cut down my own harness, especially since I am starting with a complete vehicle. I am hoping that someone has a diagram of the "needed" wiring and components. My second question is how much does it cost to have the ECU reprogrammed (I would also be interested in a price to have my harness cut down in case I decide against taking it on)? I would like to get rid of anything unnecessary, like the rear o2s and anything else that may not be needed for an offroad trail rig.

This is the computer that is in the Mountaineer. (Sorry it is upside down)

Ok guys, this will be the official feeler thread to set up an Explorer EFI mass buy.

I see that Explorer 5.0 swaps are becoming very popular, but most people seem to use the Fox Mustang electronics. While this works well, it adds to the cost because you then have to source the Mustang electronics and distributor, which are becoming pricey and harder to find. Add to that the cost of an aftermarket transmission controller if you want to run the 4R70W.

I aim to change all of that by offering an A-Ford-able solution to everyone that has access to a donor Explorer vehicle, and even those that don’t. I have been working with the vendor of my tuning software in an effort to reduce my costs and pass the savings on to my Bronco brothers. We have come to an agreement that will lower the cost of my package by $100 if I do 5 at a time. That sounds like the perfect reason to setup a mass buy to me.

The package that I will be offering includes re-working your current Explorer harness, and re-flashing your current Explorer PCM to meet your needs. I will work with each of you individually to build a truly custom harness to fit your rig. This will include a small fuse box and the needed relays to make this a stand-alone system. I can also offer the harness and PCM to those that don’t have them at a very reasonable price as they become available.

Cost: $500 plus $30 shipping. For those of you that need the harness or PCM, add $80 each or $150 for both.

Time line: It typically takes me 2 weeks to build each harness because I solder and heat shrink all splices, re-wrap the entire harness, and label all connections. I also have a day job that I must report to. Anyone that wishes to commit to the buy is welcome to send me their harness ahead of time and I’ll get started on it to reduce delay.

Deadline: I don’t have a deadline set for the first batch yet. I’m hoping for feedback from the rest of you. If you are interested, please post up with a time frame that works for you. As soon as we have 5 people committed for the same time frame I’ll figure out a deadline for payment.

Payment: I really prefer a Postal money order. However, I realize that some of you may be building rigs on credit cards. My only option for credit cards is Paypal at the moment. While a really don’t like Paypal, I will accept if for those of you that must use it.

I think that about covers the needed info. If you are interested, please post up. If you have general questions, please ask them here. If you have very specific questions that will only apply to your setup feel free to PM me.

Thanks guys.

Edited to add...

The most commonly asked question is how much of the firewall harness is needed. This picture should give you an idea, try your best to send me everything in yellow.

Need a little help. Wiring up my EFI Guy harness and it has one wire that is marked S terminal on starter selenoid. Easy enough my question is I already have a wire on that terminal from my original bronco harness. Do they both need to be there or am I replacing the stock one with Garry's harness wire?
Thanks in advance, I hope to fire this critter off soon.

So not knowing exactly how Garry did your harness...

The wire could be so that the ECU knows that the engine is in start mode, where the existing wire and Garry's wire would share the same S post.

Or is it for the neutral safety switch in the 4R70W tranny? Which you would need to connect the existing wire to it and then there would be another wire that connects to the S terminal?

Sorry if I has confused you more DH72.

Looks like both options have me putting both wires on that S terminal.
I sent Garry an email to verify. Thank for the info.
