No one makes a 4 bolt pulley for this conversion!!!! The mustang (94 and 95) both are slightly different depth than the explorer and creates a belt squeal unless, as mentioned above by putting a spacer behind the explorer bracket to space out to the mustang depth as the ranger forum has done.

Explorer has to be 100% explorer parts to use as a factory setup any mixing of parts requires custom modifications

You are correct that the 94-95 mustang setup will not directly bolt on and match up with the explorer stuff but I just got done doing this. Professional products makes a dampener and spacers. It take two spacers and a little sanding to remove a couple thousand of an inch off one spacer to make it align. If you need I can get pictures and part numbers tomorrow morning.

Last that I knew, Damper Dudes doesn't re-balance Explorer dampers any more. They just sell a new one already re-balanced. I'd confirm this and if still the case leave the JY balancer in the JY.....

EDIT: As I understand it they will re-balance new Exploder balancers in their own inventory, just not JY Exploder balancers sent to them.

The 94-95 Mustang ONLY 5.0l Front Dress has the same Depth as the Explorer, both are shorter.

Although very similar, the Explorer has a different Timing cover than the 94-95 Mustang. if I remember correctly its due to the Cam Sensor. Explorer has the Balancer and Crank pulley as one. 94-95 Mustang does not. The pulley pictured above looks like the 94-95 Mustang Crank Pulley.

Both are 50oz. Balance.

DD just rebalanced (unbalanced?) an Explorer damper for an internally balanced Ford Performance engine for me. I did buy it off the shelf though. Mark

Damper dudes does still rebalance used ones for $50. I talked to them today and am mailing my Explorer damper to get 351 balanced today.

Doh!
:)

At the time I was told that the combined to/from shipping and the cost of the re-building & rebalancing added up to more than buying new from them already rebalanced. No idea what I paid, but it was quite reasonable.Perhaps all of the low cost new dampers have been consumed?

ok this is what I did. i ordered an explorer adapter pulley from wild horses or driven auto. then I used the 28 oz imbalance damper of my bronco 302 because it has the correct bolt pattern for the adapter pulley. then i transferred the timing marks from my stock 351 damper to the 302 damper by lining up the key-ways and marking the 0 from the 351 damper on the 302 damper. then I ordered a timing tape from summit and put its 0 on my fresh 0 mark. then I put the damper on and then the pulley. the timing marks had to transferred because the the timing pointer on a bronco is on the drivers side and the explorer front dress has it on the passenger side. this way you always have access to a stock damper and dont have order a special one from somewhere else.

you can use an aftermarket damper and the adapter pulley but some dampers are thicker and cause the pulley to not line up with the belt. the stock bronco damper is the one the adapter pulley was meant for and is 28ox just like all 351w

also there is one bolt that the expy front dress has that is not needed on the 351, you will figure it out pretty quick. some 351 cam bolts are too thick and rub the timing cover so check your clearance before buttoning it up. dont forget you will now need an electric fuel pump because the expy timing cover doed not have provisions one

what timing cover did you use? Im wanting to convert a 90 351 to explorer dress as easily as possible. Running a sniper, so dont need to the tone ring of the explorer, and only really want to run the explorer alt/water pump as I will need a WH saginaw bracket.

If I didnt have to replace the timing cover, etc, that would save time an money. Just order a new 302 balancer and the pulley from WH, and Im done. or do I have to run the explorer timing cover for another reason?

It is a matched set; the timing cover, balancer, WP assembly, and all of the accessory brackets need to be Explorer parts or replacements for Explorer parts or the belt won't line up.

And just to add another gotcha other than the belt alignment aspect, literally none of the Explorer stuff will bolt to your old timing cover. The water pumps aren't even close to the same shape and layout. And if it wasn't already mentioned earlier in the thread, you must remove your old fuel pump eccentric from the cam gear or the new timing cover will not fit over the gears.
As said, it's a matched set.
