Factory extra cooling radiator question

My Marti report says I have a factory extra cooling radiator in my 1972 Bronco. Does anyone know if that was a 3-core or 4-core radiator?
Thanks,
Jeff

Interested too. I think every Marti and original build sheet I've ever seen listed the "extra cooling radiator" as an installed option.
And though I am in no position to guarantee this, I was never aware of any 4-core radiator offered from Ford for the EB. Could be wrong, but I can at least say I've never seen one.

In the full-size pickups, the difference was very notable between the standard and extra cooling radiators. In the Broncos, they all looked alike to me for the V8 engines.

My Marti report just says "Your vehicle was equipped with the following features" and then lists the "extra cooling radiator".

It would be interesting to have Marti pull the number of Bronco that were equipped with that. I have a suspect that it is 100%

My Dad ordered the extra cooling radiator and HD battery. We never saw any difference btw his rad and my stock 68 radiator side by side. He ordered his new in '69.

I've got dozens of Martis saved and the "extra cooling radiator" is very random as to when it is and isn't listed. I'll see if I can figure out some kind if pattern but at first glance I'm not seeing anything. Sometimes it says extra cooling radiator and sometimes extra cooling package.

Maybe a DSO filter? Axle ratio and GVW would be a couple other filters I would try for classifying it.
It can be interesting looking for patterns, frustrating when there are none to be found.

I don't think there was ever anything different in the form factor/dimensions of EB radiators and they were all 3 core units. That leaves about the only variable that could be different would be the fins-per-inch count. Anyone ever notice any difference in the fpi on stock radiators?

Never visually at a quick glance.
And unfortunately, I never bothered to count.

I still have the original radiator for my 71 though, and a couple of other factory radiators if they are still around. So I’ll look at the Marti to refresh my memory as to whether it had that listing or not, then count the fins per inch.

Is there a specific way they rate them that could be skewed a little bit if measured incorrectly?

Good call on that and worth looking into.

Did they all come with overflow tanks? I’m wondering if it was an option on early years that became standard later.

Overflow/expansion tanks started in '73. It probably marginally added some cooling capacity since you could fill the radiator higher. @jamesroney expounded on that in a post here some time ago.

Aha! Yeah, I actually bet that's it since there's the HD 7 blade fan??

Todd Z.

Seems logical that “extra cooling” would include a better fan but the 7 blade flex fans seem less common than the “extra cooling radiator” option on Marti’s would imply. The Marti for my ‘77 shows the extra cooling radiator open but it came with a 6 blade non-flex fan. Maybe a 6 blade is “extra cooling”? It’s a mystery…..

My 74 had the extra cooling option and it did have the 7 blade fan.
