That's cool right there. They used to have all sorts of implements-of-destruction that were bolted on to the back and used the PTO drives from the transfer case.
I think most of the ones I've seen were big auger/post hole diggers and front mounted snow plows. Did see a kind of a crane once, where the winch cable was routed up and over a pulley system at the top of an a-frame. But that's more suited to bigger trucks that can handle more weight hanging off the back.
I like the trench digger. Would come in handy more than I like around here.

Is that thing just hanging off of a receiver hitch? Looks like a nice Bronco that was restored mostly and the digger hung off the back left in it's old condition.
Pretty sure that none of the "factory option" stuff was hung from a hitch. All the ones I've seen were mounted to the bed. But I haven't seen all of them either, so maybe this was more common than I think.

Thanks for catching that one.

Definitely not mounted off a receiver hitch. This thing probably weighed 2000 lbs or more. It’s hanging by chain from the loader. We’d just pulled it off a 3400 Ford tractor.

There’s a crawler box in the tractor that slows it way down. Dad said he trenched 3ft deep for 8hrs and didn’t cover a full mile one time. I put it in low-low-low and kept questioning how to get the box in low range. I finally realized the tires were rolling EVER so slightly. So I shifted the transmission to high-high. Took at least 5 minutes to move 40 feet. Definitely more gear reduction than anyone needs in a bronco!

About 15 years ago there was one for sale that had a back hoe attached. I think that was eBay.

Years ago I saw 2 that had been converted to a post hole digger in the back. One was mechanical off the PTO and the other was hydraulic not sure if the pump was off the transfer case or engine. I wish I had pics but this was in the early 90s in auto trader type magazines.

I’ve heard all kinds of stories. Some a little far fetched ;)
One was a bronco that was purchased new to run a saw mill and never left the building. I’d like to see that one. Maybe Gupster88 will chime in :)

Late to see this. But yes. The 68 I boyght awhile back. Ran a small saw mill. Only rust in the whole Bronco is on the drivers side floor board where they got in and out to start with wet sawdust on there boots. Has just shy of 35 K miles on it. Less than 20 were on the actual road. You cant make this stuff up.
